Chapter 19: It's Just Privilege After All

The guardian’s instability stemmed from too many variables; his true target had always been the fiancé... or even the husband!
“The sentinels are rough around the edges, not concerned with formalities. You might want to think it over before responding. Didn’t you say your brother is undergoing assessments at the neighboring military academy? They usually handle enrollment directly. So, why not take Feng Yanhou along for a visit? Once he gains that additional status, you’ll see what kind of arrangements they make for him—that’s what I mean by smooth sailing!”
Alright! She understood—it was privilege, plain and simple!
“Now, back to your own placement... If you don’t want to be discovered as a guide, staying in the botanical department is actually a good idea.”
“I really... am! I resist being a guide, but I honestly don’t know how to provide mental comfort for sentinels, nor do I understand how to establish a mental link…”
Ye Moxi said helplessly, “When you attacked me initially, I fought back—that’s only fair, right? I have one flaw: when someone attacks me, I have to beat them convincingly!”
As for killing... that was mostly talk. Her convictions wouldn’t allow her to go that far.
Of course, that lizard was an exception! She always had an urge to thrash it again.
Beat convincingly?
Feng Xun glanced at Ye Moxi, then at his nephew.
Feng Yanhou shot him a sidelong glance.
“She uses mental energy attacks!”
Normal attacks can be dodged, but mental attacks infused with mental energy from an S-rank or higher guide? Even a 2S-rank sentinel couldn’t avoid those.
Feng Xun nodded.
Though he didn’t understand, he had to pretend he did!
“I’ll message your mother to help Moxi with her questions... By the way, I forgot to ask, what rank is your brother now?”
“S-rank...”
“Got it! Listen to me—first, get engaged to this kid. I’ll notify the military academy to delay publishing his assessment results a bit... But it wouldn’t be realistic for Yanhou to have custody over both of you siblings...”
“You can ask Mother. She’s currently raising an adopted son for the legion commander, Twilight...”
Adopted son?
Feng Yanhou looked at Ye Moxi.
“There are many such cases online. Outstanding sentinels from humble origins are recruited or adopted by prominent families. For example, I am currently the Feng family’s adopted son.”
But she called her mentor “uncle”! And even with her limited knowledge, she knew that Feng Yanhou, captain of the First Combat Team of the First Legion, was actually the empire’s third prince, Zhuge Fengluo!

“My identity I will explain to you in detail later. If you don’t want your original family to force you back, getting engaged to me is the fastest and simplest way... If you’re sure you don’t like that idea, you could also temporarily become my mother’s adopted daughter...”
“But I’m just a freshman in the botanical department...”
Ximo understood that easily. After all, an S-rank at eighteen or nineteen or in the early twenties was already exceptional.
“Your brother being S-rank not only elevates your parents’ status, but your other siblings will also attract attention. Especially since your own supernatural ability is not low, many outstanding sentinels will inevitably want to marry into your family...
A woman with strong mental energy and supernatural abilities—her value is immeasurable. Your family will surely select the best match for you, or even accept all suitors without refusal...”
Ye Moxi’s eyes widened in shock... Could it really be like this?
Though in her old world she had daydreamed of being surrounded by handsome men, fantasies rarely become reality!
And really, if she had to be with many men...
She was utterly incapable of accepting that!
Especially being forced into a match with a family that had once abandoned them—no way!
“This is an unavoidable fact. They might even use the pretext of ‘precious commodity’ to seek higher-status marriage partners and elevate their own family’s standing.”
“But how can they be certain I’ll bear children with better talents? After all, I was once considered talentless upon awakening!”
Marriage alliances—weren’t women’s roles essentially to bear children?
“Your talent is obvious. As for whether you can bear superior children, or how soon you might have children... you can live at least three hundred years now. Two or three centuries—they can certainly wait!”
Ye Moxi shuddered involuntarily.
That was too much! Being locked up as a breeding machine for two or three hundred years? She’d rather die!
“If you don’t have a better solution for now, would you consider my proposal—engage to me...”
Feng Yanhou took Ye Moxi’s hand and placed it over his chest.
“Actually, with the mental imprint, you don’t have to fear I’d do anything against your will...”
Wow! Those chest muscles... firm and full. But could he let go of her hand and let her do it herself?
You sly one! Using the charm of a handsome man already?
Feng Xun’s eyes widened.
But Feng Yanhou wasn’t trying to flirt; he was straightforward by nature. Especially toward Ye Moxi, he genuinely liked her and earnestly hoped she could accept him as soon as possible.

“I... I understand now...”
The allure of a handsome man really could mislead!
Though the Talent Academy and Military Academy were neighboring, both campuses were vast. Leaving the botanical academy, Feng Yanhou took out from his storage ring a vintage car... After being used to the sharp lines of interstellar high tech, this craft, resembling the Beetle from the old world, momentarily dazed Ye Moxi.
Feng Yanhou opened the passenger door for Ye Moxi.
In the interstellar era, all tech connected to the neural brain. But seeing this Beetle, Ye Moxi’s mind blanked for a moment, and using her old-world habits, she got in and buckled her own seatbelt. In fact, Feng Yanhou’s Beetle-like craft was deliberately not linked to the neural brain for a more authentic experience, so everything had to be manual.
Feng Yanhou instinctively leaned over to help her fasten the belt, and just then Ye Moxi pulled the belt back, their faces nearly collided, and inevitably their lips touched.
Ye Moxi was startled, involuntarily stepping back. But Feng Yanhou gave no chance for reaction, placing one hand on the car window, his lips tightly pressed against hers.
“Mmm...”
Ye Moxi stared at him wide-eyed, dazed. Warm breath brushed her cheek, redolent with the scent of fresh snow roots and cedar.
“You make me feel guilty.”
Feng Yanhou parted his lips slightly, his emerald eyes burning with a passion Ye Moxi couldn’t comprehend.
“Is this alright?”
What?
Ye Moxi looked at him dumbfounded, her cherry lips unconsciously parting.
Feng Yanhou’s gaze deepened.
“If you don’t mind, shall we... continue?”
He leaned in again. If Ye Moxi wished, she could easily push him away.
But she didn’t.
With Feng Yanhou’s movement, Ye Moxi closed her eyes, a gentle kiss first brushing her eyelids, then her lips.
Perhaps because her eyes were closed, her senses heightened; the warm lips enveloping hers made her heart race, her body temperature rise, and her limbs melt into softness.
