28 The Giant Monitor Lizard Monster

“What have you done?” Rong Xianxian asked coldly.
“We just happened to run into him and gave Wang Qirui a little gift,” Ren Tian said smugly.
Though the few men appeared relaxed, as if they did not take her seriously, their guns had been trained on her the entire time.
After learning that Cui Lie and the others might have been tampered with, Rong Xianxian had long since been unable to restrain herself. Seeing that the men’s positions left her no opening to exploit, she had no choice but to forcefully activate the Soul-Calming Bell in her hair.
She was now capable of launching precise attacks, but this time she needed to strike over a wide area.
She was not entirely confident. Fortunately, she could at least barely activate the Barrier Orb now.
“Brother Ren, once you get what you want, let the brothers have some fun with this woman!” said the greasy, powdered man, waving his gun with a lecherous grin.
“I advise you not to—”
Before Ren Tian could finish, his tongue suddenly seemed to knot itself, and he fell silent.
Before the others could react, their heads gave a sudden, buzzing jolt, as though their minds had gone blank.
Rong Xianxian activated the Barrier Orb and concealed her figure. In a few swift movements, she snatched the guns from their hands and tossed them into her scent pouch.
In that brief interval, Ren Tian was the first to recover. He shoved the others one by one, his expression turning extremely grim.
Smack!
The foul-mouthed man from before was struck hard across the face. In an instant, his cheek swelled into a vivid imprint of five fingers.
“Ah! Does she have supernatural powers?” the greasy man cried, nearly frightened to tears. He deeply regretted failing to keep his mouth shut.
Ren Tian’s face darkened. He pulled his shield from his back and held it before him. From inside her scent pouch, Rong Xianxian produced one of the confiscated guns and aimed at his thigh.
The muzzle appeared directly in front of Ren Tian, leaving him nowhere to dodge. Blood sprayed through the air, and he collapsed, unable to remain standing.
“Spare me! Please, spare me, ma’am!” The man with the swollen face fell to his knees, tears and snot covering his face as he begged for mercy.
“I was wrong! I only have a filthy mouth—I’m actually a very honest man, truly! If you’ll spare me, I’ll work like an ox or a horse for you!”
Seeing how spineless the man was, the others exchanged bewildered glances, unsure what they should do.
Rong Xianxian silently watched the emotions flicker across Ren Tian’s face. It seemed that her earlier tolerance had made them mistake her for an easy target.

She took a narrow-bladed saber from her scent pouch, activated its mechanism, and walked over to Ren Tian.
Ren Tian seemed to sense her approach. He drew a dagger from his clothes and thrust it toward her. A faint pain stirred in Rong Xianxian’s mind, and she realized that the Barrier Orb had not yet fully recovered. It could not withstand many more attacks.
He probably cannot see me. What terrifying instincts.
Rong Xianxian did not hesitate. She drove the curved blade into the Quepen acupoint beneath Ren Tian’s collarbone, striking once and immediately withdrawing. She did the same to the others.
The Quepen acupoint was forbidden in acupuncture; piercing it could easily cause a collapsed lung. Knowing that Ren Tian had made considerable progress in cultivating the Spirit-Attracting Formula, she had also taken the opportunity to inflict a few additional injuries.
After striking each of them once, Rong Xianxian safely withdrew the Barrier Orb.
The men who had been swaggering moments earlier now had purple faces and labored breathing. Several beat frantically at their chests before collapsing to the ground, looking as though they were suffering terribly.
They stared at Rong Xianxian with utter fear. Even Ren Tian regarded her with an unfamiliar gaze.
In her previous life, Rong Xianxian had struggled to survive at the bottom for an entire year, crossing countless treacherous paths. It was impossible for her hands to be free of blood.
But the apocalypse was still in its early stages. Even when she had sensed a variable like Ren Tian before, she had favored appeasement and had never considered eliminating the threat permanently.
That had perhaps given Ren Tian the wrong impression: he thought Rong Xianxian was merely a softhearted woman. Even if she possessed considerable combat ability, she was not someone to fear.
So the tiger had merely kept its claws sheathed, and they had mistaken it for a sick cat.
“Whoever tells me first what you did to them earlier, I’ll save him,” Rong Xianxian said, looking down at the men sprawled across the ground.
“I’ll tell you! I’ll tell you!” the man with the swollen five-finger mark blurted out. “There was giant-lizard monster egg fluid among the things Ren Tian stuffed into those people’s belongings. The giant lizard monster will find them very soon.”
Rong Xianxian’s expression changed instantly.
The giant lizard monster was like a tank. Its defensive power was absurdly strong, its attacks fierce, and it had virtually no weaknesses. Although it was not fast, it crushed everything in its path, and given enough time, it could simply wear a person down to death.
Rong Xianxian took out a telescope and looked toward the gas station.
A huge monster, three or four meters tall, was chasing several figures. The small supermarket that had once stood there had already been reduced to rubble, with clouds of dust billowing into the sky.
Wang Lin and the others had apparently splashed something over the giant lizard monster—probably gasoline. Cui Lie had only just begun mastering the Annihilating Flame Formula, but producing a small flame was still within his ability.

Wang Qirui lured the monster away from the gas station, while a point of red light shot from Cui Lie’s fingertip toward the giant lizard monster.
Rong Xianxian watched the battlefield expectantly. With a roaring flare, dazzling flames shot into the sky.
Seeing the giant lizard monster engulfed in fire, Rong Xianxian’s taut heart eased slightly.
But the favorable scene did not last. The monster’s momentum showed no sign of weakening. Instead, it seemed to have been enraged, growing increasingly frenzied. Its tail nearly swept into Wang Qirui several times, while the flames covering its body gradually diminished.
Realizing that the situation was worsening, Rong Xianxian went to the bedroom and gave Little Luo and Xuanxuan a few instructions. Then she took Ren Tian and the other four men to the neighboring residence occupied by Wang Lin’s group and locked them inside.
Since Rong Xianxian herself had subdued them, she had no fear of their trying anything behind her back. If anyone truly wished to die and insisted on making trouble, she would gladly send him on his way first.
Wang Lin and the others had been eating at Rong Xianxian’s home lately, so there was little to tidy up at their own place.
Rong Xianxian went to the storeroom and gathered several spikes ground from monster bones. She took her weapons and put on her armor. After thinking for a moment, she also brought along the leather flask she had obtained at the gas station.
She intended to collect more gasoline that day.
The leather flask that everyone had failed to recognize—and therefore left behind—was actually a storage vessel. It could hold only liquids, much like the jade purification vase carried by the Goddess of Mercy in the old legends.
The six barrels of oil Rong Xianxian had secretly stored inside it earlier barely covered the bottom.
Perhaps because the flask was a storage vessel for a single type of item, it could itself be placed inside her scent pouch. After checking her belongings once more, Rong Xianxian left.
At the gas station, the monster’s immense size was even more overwhelming up close. Its body was covered in layers of scales, leaving no obvious place to attack.
A slight sweep of its long tail could sever a solid wall in half.
Rong Xianxian told Wang Qirui to throw away whatever Ren Tian had given him at once, then ordered him to run toward the residential compound’s outer wall.
With a mournful expression, Wang Qirui said he had discarded it long ago. When they had first split up and he realized that the giant lizard monster was pursuing only him, he had suspected that the object was the cause. Yet even after throwing it away, he still could not shake the monster.
It seemed that the scent of the giant lizard monster’s egg fluid had already clung to Wang Qirui. Unless they killed the monster, he would probably never be able to escape it.
