Welcome to the "Prosperity and Fortune" live stream, episode 3.
As soon as Wen Jiu said this, the viewers in the live stream began to flood the chat with comments.
["Pumpkin Big Melon": Why aren't you opening the tasting feature, streamer? Is your level too low?]
["Chris Wants Five Bowls": Even one-star streamers can open tasting! You get ten slots!]
["Brother Monkey": ? Why aren't you opening it?]
Wen Jiu returned to another cutting board and sliced potatoes while thinking, "Is it that I don't want to open the tasting feature? It's that I don't have money to buy extra ingredients!"
These were all for the students and teachers; she couldn't just take them for personal use. So, Wen Jiu offered an apologetic smile, though no one could actually see it.
All the audience could see was a large, crying cat head that grinned while streaming tears, saying, "I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I work in the cafeteria, and these ingredients are all prepared for the students and teachers."
After she spoke, the chat went silent for a moment before erupting again.
["Dingdang 20": Which academy's cafeteria are you working at, 'Gongxi Facai'?]
["Chris Wants Five Bowls": The cafeteria???]
Chris was stunned once again. But upon reflection, considering the streamer's petite frame, she must be a struggling dwarf. It made perfect sense that she would start a live stream while working in the cafeteria to earn a little extra money to support herself. No wonder her username was "Gongxi Facai" (May You Be Prosperous)—it was clear she was very short on cash.
Moved by Wen Jiu's spirit of resilience despite her physical limitations, Chris suddenly pressed the tip button and began showering the streamer with gifts.
[User "Chris Wants Five Bowls" has gifted "Gongxi Facai" five little hearts~]
Wen Jiu, unaware of Chris's thoughts, was busy smiling as she typed today's menu onto the ordering board outside the window. After receiving the notification for the tip, she said, "Thanks for the hearts, Chris! Those who haven't followed yet, remember to hit that follow button!"
It was now time for the cafeteria to open, and the students once again staged a marathon of hundreds of people. Many students headed straight for Window 18.
"Sis, what is this fish soup dumpling today?"
"Potatoes, potatoes! I want two servings of my favorite 'Sky-Silkworm' potatoes, extra spicy, no green onions!"
Qiao Shishi had long been prepared to receive them. She leaned over the window with a smile and introduced, "It's just dumplings served in soup, with a bit more broth than the shepherd's purse dumplings you had before."
The customers didn't really care if they understood or not; they scrambled to place orders for the fish soup dumplings. Meanwhile, Wen Jiu sprang into action again, pouring the remaining shepherd's purse dumplings into the fish soup to stew. The aroma that wafted everywhere made the viewers in the live stream crave it intensely.
["Pumpkin Big Melon": Streamer, are you really not going to open the tasting feature? I want to taste this soup so badly...]
["Brother Monkey": Is this some kind of manufactured scarcity marketing?]
Brother Monkey began to suspect that "Gongxi Facai" was a marketer hired by some restaurant—after all, such things weren't unheard of. They would host a food stream, refuse to open tasting, and then run ads directing people to a specific restaurant on a specific planet. Yet, what was sold at the restaurant was completely different from what was shown on the stream. Brother Monkey, who felt he had finally found real food, was in a terrible mood and nearly reported the channel.
But in the next second, Wen Jiu signaled for the little drone to rotate and film the surroundings.
"I really am just working in a cafeteria; I can't take these ingredients out for you to eat," Wen Jiu said, scooping up the translucent, glistening dumplings while watching the chat. "Once I have extra money to buy my own ingredients, I'll definitely open the tasting feature. So please follow so you don't lose track of me—maybe one day you'll be able to eat it."
As she spoke, she showcased the bowl filled with milky-white fish soup and ingot-shaped dumplings, making every viewer who could smell it but not taste it swallow hard. Even the picky Brother Monkey had to admit that the presentation of the fish soup dumplings was excellent.
What the viewers didn't know was that the real torture was yet to come.
The students lined up obediently and carried away bowl after bowl of dumplings. Qiao Shishi spotted the young boy from the day before in the queue.
"It's you. What would you like to eat?"
Fei Qingyu would die before admitting he was craving the food Wen Jiu made. With a haughty lift of his chin, he said, "One bowl of fish soup dumplings. Make it quick—if it's late, this young master won't eat it."
Before Qiao Shishi could reply, he was shoved by the people behind him.
"What's with the attitude in front? If you're not eating, let us!"
"Exactly! Chef, listen to me! If he's not happy, don't sell it to him!"
Fei Qingyu glared indignantly at the people behind him, but as a twelve-year-old boy with a face like a cute little bunny, his attempt at looking fierce didn't scare anyone. Qiao Shishi just handed him the bowl with a bright smile. "Stop yapping and go eat!"
Why was this cute-looking girl just as annoying as Wen Jiu? Fei Qingyu pouted, took the bowl, and found an empty seat after a brief search. He scooped up a spoonful, blew on it, and cautiously tasted the fish soup.
In an instant, he was stunned by the savory freshness. The umami of the fish and the crisp sweetness of the radish blended perfectly, making his mouth water as he drank spoon after spoon. Fei Qingyu felt his mouth filled with such a delicious flavor that he almost wanted to swallow his own tongue.
Only when his spoon clinked against the bottom of the bowl did he realize he had finished the entire portion of soup. Without pausing, he immediately tasted the shepherd's purse dumplings left in the bowl. The dumpling skins were chewy and filled with fresh, sweet ingredients, and paired with the rich, fragrant fish soup, he felt as if he were floating on air, swimming in an ocean of flavor.
For some reason, Fei Qingyu felt as if all his exhaustion was being soothed by a clear spring, and his mental state, which had been poor for the past few days, improved significantly.
Beside him, Window 18's loyal fans, Wang Dalong and Li Erpao, were also immersed in the soup. Wang Dalong was a notorious gobbler, and despite seeing the steaming heat of the fish soup, he impatiently took a mouthful. The soup was still scalding, and though he felt his tongue burning, the rich, savory aroma made him bite the bullet and hold the broth until it cooled slightly before swallowing. The sweetness of the white radish had fused into the fish broth, and the fragrance of the fish spread through his mouth, leaving a lingering, endless aftertaste. Wang Dalong downed the soup in one go, still feeling like he wanted more.
["Pumpkin Big Melon": If I've done something wrong, let the Federal Law Committee punish me, but don't force me to watch these students eat! Waaah...]
["Chris Wants Five Bowls": The streamer is too much... I've already eaten four bags of chicken breast slices to satisfy my craving, but compared to the fish soup on screen, my chicken slices taste as dry as paper.]
