Chapter 14: Su Feng's Mockery
Chapter 19: Su Feng’s Mockery
Faced with Su Feng’s mockery, Annie truly had nothing left to say. Yes, nothing at all, because although Su Feng’s words were harsh, it seemed that everything he said was true. There was no exaggeration or embellishment—so, confronted with Su Feng’s ridicule, Annie could only swallow his bitterness in silence, unable to voice his grievances.
“Su Feng, I’m telling you, don’t get too cocky! I’m warning you!” Annie shot Su Feng a glare as he spoke.
So weak… truly too weak, Su Feng thought to himself. This was the best Annie could muster in retaliation. In truth, Su Feng actually felt a bit sorry for Annie, pitied him, even.
“Cocky? Have I been cocky? Honestly, I don’t think I have. Buddy, old pal, are you sure you haven’t misunderstood something? Because I think you really have. But, there’s something I want you to hear clearly—what I said about centers is exactly as you heard it. There’s really not much technical skill involved! Still, I won’t deny the role you centers play in the team, will I? I’m only saying that people like you aren’t very skilled, that’s all… Buddy, can’t you even understand plain words? If that’s the case, then I really do feel sorry for you.” Su Feng spoke with ease, smiling as he looked at Annie.
“What’s going on here?” Just as Su Feng and Annie were quarreling, a sudden voice broke in.
Both Su Feng and Annie immediately fell silent and turned their heads—it was William. Instantly, respect flashed in both their eyes.
There was no need to explain—William was the captain of the Rockets, the spiritual leader of the team. Rumor had it, William’s authority in the squad was even greater than that of head coach Rick. Many players listened only to William, not even bothering with what Rick had to say.
This showed just what kind of figure William was within the club and the team.
“Oh, William? It’s you…” The moment Annie saw William approaching, his attitude shifted dramatically. Clearly, he was afraid of William. Now he spoke to him pleasantly, “It’s nothing, really. I was just discussing some ball skills with Su Feng! I didn’t expect you to come over, William. Sorry for troubling you. There’s really nothing to worry about!”
After Annie spoke, William’s attention turned to Su Feng. Truth be told, although Su Feng was his teammate, William hadn’t paid much attention to him until now.
But at this moment, William’s gaze lingered on Su Feng, his interest piqued.
Su Feng noticed William’s attention shift to him and was startled. After all, William was an unquestionable authority within both team and club. Now that he was being noticed, Su Feng realized there must be something about him that had drawn William’s interest.
He thought it over carefully but found nothing special. Why would William pay him any mind? After some deliberation, Su Feng guessed that perhaps he hadn’t made a good impression on William.
“Is William here to pick a fight?” Su Feng wondered to himself. “If he is, I’m not afraid of him. Who’s afraid of whom, anyway?” Su Feng had never been one to back down and wasn’t about to start now.
“You’re Su Feng, right?” William fixed his gaze on Su Feng’s eyes and asked calmly.
“Yes, that’s me…” Su Feng saw no reason to avoid the question and nodded in reply.
“Good, very good…” William seemed pleased with Su Feng’s directness. Locking eyes with him, he continued, “I was just practicing when I heard a commotion over here. So tell me, what were you two talking about?”
Hearing this, Annie grew anxious and quickly jumped in, “William, I told you already, I was just discussing basketball skills with Su Feng. That’s all, really.”
“Is that so?” William glanced at Annie, then turned to Su Feng and asked coolly, “Annie, is what you just said true?”
Su Feng smiled at Annie, then replied, “William, I’m sorry, but Annie wasn’t telling the truth just now…”
“What—Su Feng, what are you talking about! What do you mean, not telling the truth? That’s exactly what we were saying, alright? You really aren’t playing fair, you know?” Annie exploded at Su Feng’s words, shouting furiously.
Su Feng glanced at Annie, still smiling lightly, and said, “Annie, you were clearly lying. What’s wrong with admitting that? So, this is the kind of shameless character you have—it’s really not good, you know.”
“I…” Annie stared at Su Feng, utterly at a loss for words, feeling the bitterness rise in his chest.
“Hahaha… Su Feng, you’re an interesting one. So, tell me then: what exactly did Annie lie about? Or, why don’t you tell me what you two were talking about just now? Or what you were up to?” William’s eyes bore into Su Feng’s, a faint smile playing at his lips.
