Just as he had expected. Ever since unlocking the second seal, he had gained a new ability: the power of devouring.

It was only during his battle with Lei Jue that he discovered this by chance. With this ability, he could even absorb powers outside his own.

When he absorbed the black mist from the first child, he noticed no abnormality in his body. So he stood where he was, using the power of devouring in his palm to draw the black mist from the air toward him, until the mist spilling from the children gradually diminished and finally vanished altogether. The effects of the potion ceased, and the boy’s sleeping face took on a hint of peacefulness.

He didn’t know if this would help the boy, or if their conditions would improve, but after he had done this, Black Feather felt some comfort in his heart.

The old physician who was preparing the potion turned to look at Black Feather, who had lingered in the room, his expression displeased as he urged him, “If you have nothing to do with this, please leave quickly!”

Black Feather hurried out of the house.

Where the training grounds of the Magic Academy once were, now stood many tents erected by the warriors of the Holy City Guard. Weapons in hand, they patrolled with stern expressions.

Teachers and students from the Magic Academy were gathered there as well. Dean Yunlan stood at their center.

Not only Yunlan, but from afar, Black Feather could see Teacher He Yin, Teacher Shi, and several teachers from other classes assembled here. Among the crowd were Ling Xiao Lei, Shen Zai Guo, Bai Sheng Ye, Ling Meng, and others.

“Dean Yunlan, what happened last night...?”

“The volcanic eruption destroyed the Great Wall. Demonic beasts have invaded. Don’t go to the forest lately—it’s not safe,” Yunlan said.

“Is the city’s green belt off-limits too?”

“Yes, all practical training classes are suspended for now. The Magic Academy’s teachers must head north to the Great Wall to support the battlefield.”

“Ah, does that mean classes are stopped...”

The students’ faces were grave.

“What happened?” Black Feather walked up and asked.

Ling Xiao Lei, seeing him at last, was astonished. “Black Feather?! You were missing all night—where did you go? Why are you only now appearing? We thought you’d been captured by the demonic beasts!”

Shen Zai Guo’s worries vanished, and she happily hugged Black Feather, her small face rubbing against him. “Brother Black Feather, I told them you’d be fine...”

Three warriors of the Guard dashed over from a distance, their armor stained with dust and blood—clearly from the front lines. They ran up to Dean Yunlan, and though they were out of breath, they still politely asked,

“Excuse me, are you Dean Yunlan of the Magic Academy?”

“I am,” Yunlan replied.

“Thank goodness, we’ve finally found you! We’ve rushed here from the eastern front. The battlefield situation is dire. Lord Red Flame sent us to seek ice magic mages among the Academy’s teachers or students.”

“Ice magic mages...” Yunlan frowned, thinking. “Most ice mages are in the Snowlands. Shouldn’t the Pantheon people notify the Snowlands for help?”

The Guard warrior sighed. “It’s a long story. The Ice Queen refuses to lend her aid. The greatest threat near Doomsday Volcano now is the awakened ancient beast—the Lava Colossus. If we can’t find magic to counter it, the Great Wall... the Great Wall may not hold!”

“What?” Everyone was shocked. None had imagined the eruption would bring such dire consequences.

If the Great Wall fell, the result was obvious: hordes of demonic beasts would sweep through the Eastern Lands unhindered, and the neighboring continents would also suffer.

“Ice magic... ice magic...” Yunlan pondered.

Ice-attribute mages were rare in other continents, and there was no ice mage teacher currently employed at the Academy. Yunlan even recalled all retired teachers, but found no suitable candidate. His gaze inevitably fell on Bai Sheng Ye.

He hesitated, for Bai Sheng Ye had kept his magic strength hidden since the beginning of term, dedicating himself to potion studies. Yunlan remembered Bai Sheng Ye’s words: “Regardless of the cause, any killing is evil.” He did not wish to violate this student’s principles.

Moreover, Bai Sheng Ye was still too young. Whether his power could contend with the Lava Colossus was uncertain. Though the situation was urgent, Yunlan was reluctant to risk sending a student to battle.

“Ice magic mages... I’m afraid the Academy...”

Just as Yunlan was about to give this helpless answer, Bai Sheng Ye suddenly stepped forward.

“Teacher, I am willing to go.”

Yunlan was surprised. He gazed at Bai Sheng Ye in astonishment. “Are you... are you sure?”

The Guard warriors, hearing there was an ice magic student, brimmed with hope. “Wonderful! Are you an ice magic student?”

“I am.”

“What rank?”

“Mid-level mage, intermediate stage.”

“Intermediate...” The leader’s expression turned troubled; clearly, he thought Bai Sheng Ye’s rank was too low.

“My rank may not be high, but I am a potion master...” Bai Sheng Ye explained calmly.

The Guard captain didn’t quite understand the significance of “I am a potion master,” nor how it related to defeating the Lava Colossus. Though the young man before him spoke with composure and confidence, he was still worried.

“It’s enough,” Yunlan said. “If you are willing, according to elemental advantage, an intermediate mage is sufficient to freeze a Lava Colossus. With my cold wind to assist, the effect will be greater. I’ll go with you.”

The two exchanged a confirming glance. Yunlan then selected several outstanding teachers, including Teacher Shi Fangcheng, and finally said,

“These teachers will accompany me to support the battlefield. The rest will stay at the school. While I’m away, everything will be under Teacher He Yin’s direction.”

Black Feather hurried forward. “Teacher, I want to help at the battlefield, too.”

Hearing this, many students grew eager and began to say, “Teacher, I want to go too!”

Ling Meng added, “As a member of the Light Elves, I am willing to do my part to resist the demonic beasts.”

Yunlan waved a hand. “Your ranks are still too low. Focus on your cultivation. If you wish to contribute to the continent, seize the time to improve your strength! ...But Black Feather, you may come along.”

Yunlan refused all the students, but his gaze unexpectedly settled on Black Feather, singling him out. Black Feather was surprised as well.

“Dean Yunlan, I need to return to my dormitory to prepare some potions. Please wait for me a moment,” Bai Sheng Ye said.

“All right. You and Black Feather, go prepare and then gather here,” Yunlan said.
