Chapter 045: Mesmerized by His Handsome Face
Jin'er tried to pull her hand back, but she was no match for his strength. In the end, she had to give up struggling and said in a low voice, full of annoyance, “Just look at your face, the way you speak, and how after meeting me only once, you declared that in two years I would be yours!”
Before he could respond, Jin'er’s eyes darted slyly and she quickly added, “And furthermore, how dare you touch a little girl like me who’s only twelve!”
Mo Yan lowered his head with a laugh, and when he looked up again, that bewitching, signature smile had returned to his face.
“First, it’s not my fault I was born this handsome. Second, my manner of speaking is just a bit friendlier and more humorous than most. Third, I admit I was a little impulsive when I said those words to you—but you’re the first to ever make me feel that way. As for the last point, well, girls getting married at twelve isn’t exactly rare here on the Continent of the Five Spirits.”
Jin'er, who had already been somewhat entranced by his smile, now found herself speechless at his smooth and thorough explanations.
“You’re very logical,” she remarked. To put it less kindly, he was just a silver-tongued rogue.
“Logical? What’s that?” Mo Yan raised an eyebrow, puzzled.
“Nothing,” Jin’er pouted, too lazy to explain further.
“Tell me! I’m a very curious person!” Mo Yan’s striking face twisted into a look of comical distress.
“Oh, I already said I didn’t—ah!” Jin’er was trying to explain, still sulking, when a sharp, stabbing pain suddenly shot through her chest.
The poison was flaring up again.
Mo Yan’s expression turned grave. He quickly got up to steady Jin’er, then bent down and scooped her into his arms, carrying her to the side and gently laying her on the bed.
“Bear with it for a moment.” His deep voice was completely different from before, filling Jin’er with a sudden sense of reassurance.
Next, Mo Yan sat on the bed as well, took out silver needles, and began swiftly inserting them into her scalp.
Jin’er’s lips turned pale, her body trembling uncontrollably as she clenched her teeth, doing her utmost to endure the poison raging through her veins.
Before long, Mo Yan finished the needlework, then settled into a meditative posture in front of Jin’er, took her hands in his, closed his eyes, and channeled his inner fire spirit energy through his palms into her body.
Where their hands met, a faint fiery glow shimmered, casting an eerie light.
Gradually, beads of sweat formed on both their faces and began to trickle down. Color slowly returned to Jin’er’s cheeks, while Mo Yan’s face grew increasingly pale.
No one could say how much time had passed before Jin’er finally opened her eyes. The excruciating pain had mostly subsided, and the chill in her body had nearly disappeared, driven away by the warmth of Mo Yan’s fire spirit.
Seeing Mo Yan’s brows knitted in concentration and his complexion paler than before, Jin’er couldn’t help but feel a twinge of concern.
He was a stranger to her, yet he had saved her again and again, never sparing himself any effort. What kind of person was he, really?
Lost in these thoughts, Jin’er stared at him, gradually becoming captivated by his handsome features, forgetting even the discomfort in her own body.
She realized his skin was flawless, fair and luminous, with fine beads of sweat glimmering beneath the dim lamplight. His brows were perfectly shaped; beneath tightly shut peach blossom eyes, his long lashes curved into a delicate arc. There was his straight nose, his lightly pressed lips…
The longer she looked, the more she found herself swallowing involuntarily. Heavens—when had she become so shallow? Was it just because he was this good-looking? Did she really have to stare so hard she was practically drooling? Scolding herself inwardly, she felt her cheeks flush with embarrassment.
