Chapter 051: You Always Take Her Side!
After leaving the study, Jin'er couldn't stop thinking about the matter of the Lifebane Powder. Suddenly, she remembered that there wasn't much of it left in her body, and the venom of the Silver Serpent seemed even more potent.
She quickly turned back and grabbed Doctor Chen, asking, “Master, what about the Silver Serpent’s venom? Do you know how to neutralize it?”
“Silver Serpent?” Doctor Chen pondered for quite a while before a look of realization dawned on him. “Oh, the Silver Serpent? I’ve heard of it—it’s extremely poisonous! But I mainly practice medicine, and haven’t delved much into poisons. Perhaps the Poison Sage might know?”
Jin’er’s eye twitched with frustration. “Master, you’re not suggesting I go ask the Poison Sage, are you?”
Doctor Chen was momentarily taken aback, then burst out laughing. “Ha ha ha… Oh, look at me, getting muddle-headed in my old age! Ha ha ha…”
After laughing for some time, he finally composed himself and said, “But my senior brother has always enjoyed researching such things in his spare time. Next time you meet him, you could ask him directly.”
“Oh, Master, you have a senior brother?” Jin’er asked in surprise.
“Yes, we gather once a year. This year it’s his turn to visit me. In a few months, you’ll meet him. If you have any questions in this field, think of them ahead of time so you can ask him all at once,” Doctor Chen said with a smile.
“Oh, all right, I understand.”
They returned together to the front hall. There were no customers in the shop at the moment, so Doctor Chen sat Jin’er down and began sharing prescriptions for various difficult and complicated ailments. Xiao Jiu and Qin’er were nearby, adding herbs to the drawers of the medicine cabinet.
“Hmph! Master is so biased! When has he ever taught us so patiently and thoroughly? I could accept it if it were just me, but even you, Senior Brother, have never received such treatment!” Qin’er turned to glare at Jin’er, her voice lowered in discontent.
“Don’t say that. Jin’er is exceptionally gifted and diligent, and since Master appreciates talent, of course he hopes she’ll become independent as soon as possible,” Xiao Jiu replied, glancing at Jin’er, who was listening intently, with a gentle smile.
Qin’er rolled her eyes and turned to Xiao Jiu, annoyed. “Senior Brother, you’re always defending her! What talent does she have? Can she compare to you? I think she just knows how to curry favor and act pitiful!”
“That’s enough!” Xiao Jiu’s expression darkened as he scolded her softly. “Why do you always have it in for her? She’s done nothing to provoke or hinder you, so why are you always so hostile?”
Qin’er was stunned by his sudden anger and rebuke, feeling a surge of grievance and fury. “She hasn’t upset me or stood in my way, but she’s the reason you keep scolding me!” With that, she covered her face and ran off in tears.
Though her voice wasn’t loud, Jin’er still caught fragments of their conversation. She glanced over and saw Xiao Jiu rubbing his brow, looking exasperated.
“My girl?” Doctor Chen called softly. Jin’er quickly turned back. “Yes, Master?”
“Xiao Jiu is gentle by nature and a good person. I can see he’s looked after you well. Qin’er’s always been like that—clingy since childhood. Maybe she’s upset because Xiao Jiu pays more attention to you and less to her. She’s just a child at heart; don’t take it to heart.”
Clearly, he had overheard Qin’er’s words as well, since they weren’t far away.
