Su Nanxing pushed against her shoulder with one hand, struggling to pull his arm free as he called out repeatedly, “Enchantress, that’s enough!”

Tao Ming curled her lips, found a chair, and sat down to watch the show.

The onlookers nearby—Duststorm, Clearstream, Tornado, Gloom, and Heartreaver—exchanged glances, all marveling inwardly at how composed their young mistress was.

Seeing that Tao Ming did not mind in the slightest and had even dragged over a chair, her face full of anticipation, Su Nanxing could not help feeling a little disappointed. Could it be that Tao Ming was not jealous at all?

Once that thought entered his mind, Su Nanxing stopped struggling and simply let the woman cling to him.

Enchantress jerked her chin toward Tao Ming. “Who is she? If you don’t explain yourself, you’re not leaving today.”

Tao Ming regarded her with great interest. “Have you ever heard a certain saying?”

“What saying?” Enchantress rested her head against Su Nanxing’s shoulder and gently rubbed his arm. Anyone with eyes could see Su Nanxing shudder.

Tao Ming cast her a flirtatious glance. “People always hear the new lover’s laughter. Who ever hears the old lover’s tears?”

Enchantress put on a wounded expression. “You heartless man, am I already an old lover?”

Su Nanxing said aggrievedly, “Darling, you don’t love me anymore.”

Tao Ming burst out laughing. “All right, this is obviously a man.”

Enchantress stared in shock. She released Su Nanxing, walked over to Tao Ming, and looked her up and down before asking, “How could you tell?”

“You should at least be a little more professional. You don’t even have an A cup!” Tao Ming pointed at her perfectly flat chest.

Enchantress had no idea what “A cup” meant, but one glance downward made the situation clear. She stamped her foot. “I was in such a hurry to get back that I forgot.”

Tao Ming took out a bra and held it against her. “Use this. It’ll look more convincing.”

“You—you—you…”

To everyone’s surprise, Enchantress spun around and ran away.

Tao Ming hung the bra over the back of the chair, looked around at the assembled group, and greeted them. “Hello.”

The onlookers: “…”

Su Nanxing sat beside Tao Ming with a radiant smile and slipped an arm around her. “Isn’t my wife amazing?”

The onlookers: “…”

Tao Ming carefully examined the people before her. Well, there was no other way to put it—they were quite a sight.

Su Nanxing introduced them one by one. “Heartreaver is in charge of interrogations.”

Heartreaver wore a black robe, his face hidden beneath the hood. It was impossible to see what he looked like.

“Gloom is in charge of assassinations.”

Gloom resembled a mass of black mist, as though he might dissipate into the air at any moment.

“Tornado handles intelligence.”

Tornado looked fairly normal. He was a clean-cut young man with a gentle smile and an unmistakably amiable air.

“Clearstream is in charge of making money.”

Clearstream was dressed in sumptuous clothes and carried himself like a successful businessman.

“Duststorm is in charge of spending it.”

Duststorm had dark skin and a listless expression, as though he might drop dead from exhaustion at any moment.

“The one just now, who was neither man nor woman, is Enchantress. She is responsible for training people for certain special purposes.”

Thinking of the seductive way Enchantress had behaved, Tao Ming suspected that “special purposes” carried a deeper meaning.

“There’s one more, Moonshadow. He’s currently leading people undercover among the enemy.”

As Tao Ming listened to Su Nanxing’s introductions, she wondered what such a secretive organization was actually for.

When he finished speaking, the group bowed in unison. “Greetings, Young Mistress.”

Su Nanxing continued, “This is my greatest secret. Even Windshadow knows nothing about it.”

“What do you keep all this for?” Various possibilities sprang to Tao Ming’s mind: mysterious sects hidden among ordinary people, criminal organizations entrenched in the underworld, or some evil force bent on manipulating hearts and minds.

Su Nanxing patted her arm. “Darling, Weishui is not as peaceful as it appears on the surface. Some families are secretly colluding with the demons, and it is entirely possible that the demons may invade this place at any time.”

Tao Ming felt as though she were listening to a story from another world. “Demons? Are you playing a game? Why have I never heard anyone mention them?”

“You only just arrived in Weishui. Who would tell you about such things?” Su Nanxing turned to the others. “Sit down, all of you.”

Tao Ming waited until they had taken their seats before speaking again. “All right, then. What exactly are demons? Are they a different species from humans?”

“Demons are bloodthirsty killers by nature, cruel and savage. If they were to overrun Weishui, I fear fewer than one person in ten would survive.” Su Nanxing’s usual joking manner had vanished. His expression was grave and severe.

Seeing how firmly he spoke, Tao Ming could not help asking, “Have you seen demons with your own eyes?”

Su Nanxing pointed toward a door on the right. “Naturally. There are several demons imprisoned in the secret chamber even now.”

Tao Ming followed his finger. “Can I go take a look?”

“Darling, you’d better not. I’m afraid it might frighten you.”

Seeing how resolute he was, Tao Ming could only abandon the idea. She asked casually, “Then where is the demons’ stronghold?”

“There is a small island in the Southern Sea. An array for teleportation stands on the island. That is where the demons appeared.”

Tao Ming had no real sense of Weishui’s geography, so she asked, “You mean the demons came from somewhere else?”

“That is only a guess. We have no way to verify it.” Su Nanxing was deeply troubled by the demons’ origins. None of their investigations had yielded any definite information.

“But didn’t you say you captured several demons?”

Su Nanxing could only shake his head helplessly. “We interrogated them for a long time, but they refused to reveal a single thing.”

“Have the demons ever launched a large-scale invasion before?” Tao Ming tried to recall everything she had experienced over the past few days. Apparently, no one had shown the slightest concern about such a possibility.

“I have only seen a handful of demons,” Su Nanxing answered honestly. “But my master once told me that they had made a major move in the past.”

“Your master?” Tao Ming wondered. So Su Nanxing actually had a master? She had assumed he cultivated solely within the Su residence.

Su Nanxing’s face filled with sorrow. “My master passed away long ago.”

“I’m sorry.” Tao Ming had not expected that great expert to be gone already.

Su Nanxing gave a slight shake of his head, indicating that he did not mind.

At that moment, Enchantress returned. Seeing her slender waist swaying, her curves exaggerated in all the right places, Tao Ming exclaimed admiringly, “You look even more like a woman than I do!”

Enchantress cast her a flirtatious glance. “If the Young Mistress wishes to learn, I shall teach you everything I know.”

“I want to learn. I absolutely must learn.”

Su Nanxing said irritably, “What do you want to learn that for?”

Tao Ming carefully observed Enchantress’s every movement and replied, “So I can seduce you properly!”

“Darling, do you really need to seduce me?” Su Nanxing did not want Tao Ming picking up bad habits from Enchantress.

Enchantress leaned lazily against the back of her chair. “Master, with enough time, even the sweetest things can become tiresome.”

Tao Ming found this profoundly reasonable and gave Enchantress a thumbs-up.

“Young Mistress, if you wish to develop greater charm, you would do well to use that sort of gesture less often,” Enchantress kindly advised.

Tao Ming imitated Enchantress and leaned against Su Nanxing. “What about this?”

“That is only the outer form. You still require diligent practice,” Enchantress replied, clearly dissatisfied with Tao Ming’s imitation.

Su Nanxing regretted letting Tao Ming meet Enchantress. Seeing the conversation veering further and further into strange territory, he hurriedly interrupted them. “Enchantress, where are the disciples you brought with you?”

“Master, I just sent one group away. The few new recruits are still studying under Ying’er and Raorao. They are not ready to graduate yet.” Enchantress became quite serious when discussing business, though even at her most serious she still looked as if she were preparing to seduce someone at any moment.

Gloom felt utterly miserable. He had overheard things he should not have heard the previous night and was terrified that Su Nanxing would settle the score with him later. He had thought that once Enchantress returned today, he would finally be free of the matter. Who could have guessed that there would be no one available to take his place?

Tao Ming murmured to herself, “Ying’er? Raorao?”
