Chapter Sixty: Wait and See
"What?" Instantly, Seth and his medical team exchanged glances, disbelief written on their faces. Did he really dare say such a thing?
Since Seth became a postgraduate at Germany's finest Berlin Medical University, he had never heard of any patient’s wounds improving within half an hour. He was certain that nowhere in the world was there a medicine capable of healing such a large wound so quickly.
Now, Seth pointed angrily at Lu Hao. "You people from the Dragon Kingdom—I've seen plenty of so-called charlatans like you. Your words are utterly untrustworthy."
Seth had spent a considerable time in the Dragon Kingdom and was familiar with some of the more dubious elements that existed there.
Lu Hao laughed loudly and said, "Dr. Seth, would you dare to make a wager with me?"
Seth’s expression changed, his anger deepening. "Fine, since you want to gamble, let's do it."
"What shall we wager?"
"How about that watch on your wrist?" Lu Hao gestured at the Rolex with the green jade Seth wore.
One glance was enough to tell it was genuine. After all, this foreigner was German, and the watch looked quite new, likely recently purchased.
Seth confidently removed his watch and said, "Alright, I can put this up as a stake. But what will you offer as an equivalent?"
Lu Hao replied, "An equivalent stake? That's simple."
"I’ll teach you a medical technique from our Dragon Kingdom called acupuncture. Its value far surpasses your Rolex, many times over."
Seth laughed again, this time with ridicule and contempt.
He pushed up his glasses. "Mr. Lu, are you joking with me? Your so-called acupuncture—I studied it countless times when I was in my twenties, as an exchange student at the medical university in the capital."
"Then how about this?" As Lu Hao spoke, a set of silver needles appeared in his hands.
With a deft twist of his wrists, the needles scattered and landed in the table before them. As his fingers moved, the needles began to rotate automatically, releasing a distinctive medicinal fragrance.
The display stunned Seth.
"What... is this?"
"One of the techniques from the ‘Nine-Turn Eighteen-Needle Method.’ Are you interested?" Lu Hao smiled, eyes squinting.
No matter how knowledgeable this foreigner was, when confronted with the heritage of China, he seemed insignificant.
Seth’s face remained disdainful. "Is this some kind of circus trick that you people like? I see nothing special here."
"Our magic tricks are far more impressive than what you're performing now."
"Still, I'll accept your wager. I want to see how you react when you fail."
His confidence was overwhelming. He and his assistants had confirmed that Shang Yun-jie’s injuries were extremely serious. Recovery within half a month, let alone half an hour as Lu Hao claimed, was sheer fantasy.
Lu Hao nodded, glancing at Dr. Seth. "Good. That’s exactly what I wanted."
"Your assistants can help me—bring some alcohol."
"And a lighter, I’ll need one."
Seth’s confidence was undiminished. "Fine. I want to see whether you can do what you claim today."
"Go. From now on, whatever Mr. Lu requests, you must fulfill without question."
"Yes!" The blonde, wavy-haired nurses looked at Lu Hao excitedly, as if eyeing a delicious pastry.
They were used to European baguettes; foreign cuisine from Asia intrigued them. Yet that didn’t mean they believed a word Lu Hao said.
One tall nurse with crimson lips said, "Doctor from the Dragon Kingdom, if you lose, you’d better share a room with me and Lisa tonight. We’ll make sure you’re thoroughly punished."
She licked her lips, blood-red, as if she could drain a man dry.
Lu Hao was momentarily stunned, watching her gesture with some alarm.
How could her tongue be so long?
"Alright," Lu Hao said, "go fetch the alcohol quickly."
"And boil a pot of water—bring it over in a medicine cauldron, preferably the kind used for decocting herbal remedies."
Seth nodded and instructed the nurses, "Do as Mr. Lu asks."
Soon, the nurses left to gather the supplies.
Seth then asked seriously, "Mr. Lu, may I ask your age and academic qualifications?"
Lu Hao replied earnestly, "I’m twenty-two years old, with a bachelor’s degree from the medical university in the capital of the Dragon Kingdom."
Seth adjusted his glasses, his eyes filled with mocking disdain. "Oh, so merely a bachelor’s. You know, in Germany, someone like you wouldn’t even qualify as my assistant."
"Do you know the qualifications of Lisa and the others who joked with you earlier? They’re all graduate students from Tehran’s top medical university."
"That’s why I don’t mind their jokes."
Lu Hao suddenly understood why these women dared to make such risqué remarks in front of Miss Shang.
They were interns of that caliber.
Lu Hao said, "Dr. Seth, sometimes you must realize that academic qualifications don’t equate to ability."
"Some gifted individuals don’t need much schooling. Surely you know this better than I."
Seth was silent for a moment. Indeed, in his years of teaching, he had encountered many prodigies.
Their genius was such that, with minimal study, they could master skills inaccessible to most.
Seth looked Lu Hao over seriously and said, "I believe such people exist, but you are certainly not one of them."
"And Miss Shang, with her distinguished status, cannot be subjected to jokes. Remember, if you fail to heal her—"
"I’ll treat your attempt as medical malpractice and use our embassy’s power to punish you."
Lu Hao blinked and glanced at Seth’s green jade Rolex. "We shall see."
