Chapter 24: Emergency Bounty of 300 Points, Assemble!
"Master Su, quick, open the door! Help me!"
Suddenly, a cry for help came from outside.
"Brainless" looked at Su Cheng. "Are we working today?"
Su Cheng nodded.
The door opened to reveal a man whose face was so battered he looked like a pig's head. He was weeping, clutching a mechanical arm that had been ripped clean off.
He began cursing the moment he stepped inside. "Damn it! Those people are hateful. I didn't know anything, and they beat me up and tore my arm off! It’s a good thing those 'Wild Ghosts' are dead. Damn it, sooner or later, someone’s going to kill the lot of them! A bunch of trash!"
The interrogations by the "Dead Rocker Gang" had brought Su Cheng a significant amount of business. Many people came to him for repairs after their prosthetics were smashed.
"Thank you, Dr. Su. Your skills are incredible! You’re no mere 'entry-level' technician; I’d say even the high-level technicians in the Inner City aren't as good as you!"
Su Cheng waved a hand. "The 'entry-level' label isn't my rank; it’s a disclaimer of liability."
The patient laughed awkwardly. "Heh, Dr. Su is so clever. You really are a good man."
In truth, he had never actually seen an Inner City technician.
After seeing the patient out, Su Cheng began cleaning his tools.
"Brainless" asked in surprise, "Damn, we don't take responsibility if it doesn't work, yet he’s thanking you and calling you a good man."
"Am I not a good man?"
"You tell me."
"Of course I am," Su Cheng replied as if it were obvious.
Just then, the Hunter's card in his pocket vibrated.
Su Cheng quickly pulled it out. It wasn't a message; a new hunting bounty had been posted.
"An emergency multi-player bounty?"
Su Cheng tapped on the details.
'Emergency hunting bounty issued by the Wasteland Arena. Seeking eight hunters. Two high-level hunters required; no rank restrictions for the others.
Objective: Suppress all raiders within the 2BSB Administrative District of the Wasteland.
For specific details, report to the recruitment station at the Wasteland Arena.
Reward: 8 units of intermediate nutrient solution, 1 voucher for 50% off high-level nutrient solution, 1 E-grade and 1 D-grade mechanical prosthetic, 2,000 Alliance Credits, and 300 total points (distributed based on participation weight).
Recruitment location: Wasteland Arena. Limited to 8 participants.'
"We're closing today. I have business to attend to."
Su Cheng locked the door immediately, quickly changed his clothes, grabbed his particle-cutting long blade and B-type kinetic pistol, packed all his ammunition, and mounted his motorcycle, heading toward the Wasteland Arena.
"Damn, why so fast? Not working is fine by me—I'll definitely beat the level today! Haha, the boss at the end should be easy!"
300 points!
Su Cheng had to hurry. He needed those points to raise his Hunter rank.
Whether it was to investigate the source of his genes or that tattoo, he needed a higher rank!
A year had passed since he found that tattoo clue; a lot could have changed in a year!
He twisted the throttle to the limit.
The engine let out a high-pitched roar as he sped down the road!
There were only eight spots for this bounty!
He had to be fast!
The points were distributed based on participation—the most intuitive metric being the quantity and quality of raiders killed.
This was easily the fastest and most lucrative way to earn points right now!
The only ones who could compete with him were those two high-level hunters.
With a body reinforced to rival a C-grade mechanical prosthetic and his newly acquired first-sequence genetic ability, "Pierce," he could hold his own even against Zhang Jie!
The Kawasaki H2R roared at 192 kilometers per hour.
Relying on his enhanced reflexes, Su Cheng maneuvered flexibly, weaving through the traffic like a dragon!
No man could resist the roar of an internal combustion engine!
The surging sound pushed his adrenaline to the limit!
...
The Wasteland Arena was located in the northern region of the Inner Wasteland.
The entire northern sector had been allocated to the arena, with numerous supporting facilities built around it. It was the most bustling and crowded place in the Wasteland!
Shops were everywhere, filled with people looking for leisure and entertainment.
The largest building in the center of the North Sector was the Wasteland Arena itself.
The structure looked like a rusted, metallic version of the Roman Colosseum.
The entrance was swarming with people in flamboyant clothing, heading inside to watch the matches. Meanwhile, competitors with powerful cybernetic modifications entered through a separate passage.
Su Cheng arrived, looking up at the five massive metallic characters spelling out "Wasteland Arena."
Even from the outside, he could hear the cheers and the passionate commentary!
Occasionally, fireworks would go off, and the massive projection in the sky could be seen from far away!
People living in the suburbs could never have imagined that the Inner City was this lively.
Su Cheng parked his bike and walked toward a woman in a red leather jacket—it was Remi.
Five people were gathered there, with Remi standing a short distance from the other four.
Among the other four, there was a familiar face: Chen Ze, whom he had seen at the Loli Island bar.
As for the other three, one had twin blades on his back, one carried two pistols, and the third had a right arm that looked significantly thicker than his left.
That must be the recruitment spot.
"I didn't expect you to come too. Now I'll finally know your name."
Remi looked at Su Cheng with a seductive smile. Her mask covered the upper half of her face, but her rosy, sensual lips were exposed.
Her presence immediately drew the gaze of everyone nearby.
Su Cheng walked up to the recruiter and pulled out his Hunter card.
"Register me."
The recruiter scanned his card with a device, completing the process.
"Hunter codename: Shadow. Entry-level hunter?"
The recruiter frowned. "This mission is extremely dangerous. It's not for entry-level hunters; you'll die! Everyone here is at least an intermediate-level hunter."
Su Cheng raised an eyebrow. "Weren't there no rank restrictions?"
The recruiter sighed helplessly. "True, but it is truly dangerous. Besides, we are still missing one high-level hunter. If the squad fills up, the person at the bottom of the rankings will be kicked out."
Su Cheng nodded. "Understood. It's fine; I'm joining."
Just then, Remi walked to his side, and a rich scent of flowers washed over him. "We meet again. So, your name is Shadow."
Su Cheng gave her a cold, indifferent glance. "Yes."
"So cold," Remi murmured, leaning in with interest, her cleavage fully exposed. "Don't you think I'm attractive?"
Su Cheng didn't answer and turned to wait on the other side.
Women...
Remi certainly had an excellent figure, but his heart only held the image of one person, and his mind only contained her smile, which shone like the morning sun...
His world was small; there was no room for any other woman.
Remi licked her lips, smiling charmingly.
Chen Ze sneered from the side. "Another newbie? An entry-level hunter actually trying to get involved? How laughable. And playing the 'cool and mysterious' act to grab Remi's attention? That trick is so old."
The man with the dual pistols said enviously, "True, Remi has become very famous lately. Her figure is top-tier. Even without showing her face, her popularity is on par with Rebecca's. Plus, she accumulated enough points in less than half a month, passed the high-level hunter assessment, and promoted to high-level. No one has ever done that before!"
"Exactly. I heard her prosthetics are quite extraordinary."
"I heard those thick, voluptuous thighs of hers can easily snap any prosthetic, heh."
The four of them huddled together, whispering.
Even though they spoke quietly, Remi heard every word, and a flash of disgust crossed her eyes.
A short while later, another intermediate hunter finished registering and joined Chen Ze's group.
"Holy crap! Is that Remi? She's joining this bounty too?"
"Yes."
"And that guy? The poor bastard in rags wearing a mask—don't tell me he's a hunter too?"
Chen Ze sneered. "That's right, he is a hunter. An entry-level one."
"Entry-level? What's he doing here? Looking to die?"
Chen Ze shrugged and intentionally raised his voice. "Who knows? I've seen several newbies these past two days. These new guys have no respect for their seniors; they don't even know how to come over and say hello. The world is really going downhill!"
"Whatever. By the way, I heard Zhang Jie met some big shot and managed to get his hands on some high-quality nutrient solution. Damn, he's definitely going to nail that S-grade rank this time!"
Chen Ze nodded. "Yeah, it's a pity the supply is so limited. He only put it up for sale because there's a recovery period between the enhancement effects; otherwise, he probably would have used it all himself."
"I really wish I could meet that big shot..."
