Chapter Nineteen: Yao Group
The night passed in silence, and Lin Feng’s cultivation advanced steadily. Early the next morning, Yao Qianqian knocked on the door of the study, fixing Lin Feng with a cold gaze and sighing deeply.
“Lin Feng, I’m truly disappointed in you. Yesterday at the birthday banquet, you disregarded Grandfather’s dignity, humiliating him in front of guests. You might have felt satisfied, but what about me? What about my father?”
“You should remember that what you received yesterday was merely a token of charity from the Tang family, and already you’ve become like this! I dread to think what you’ll turn into in the future. Do you really believe the Tang family will support you for a lifetime?”
“Charity? Is that your conclusion?” Lin Feng let out a cold laugh, retrieving the Tang family’s jade medallion from his pocket and placing it in front of Yao Qianqian.
“With this jade medallion, every business under the Tang family will treat me like a god, reverent and deferential. Do you know why Tang Kenian gifted me the jade at the banquet? It was because I purchased every item in the Great Tang Jewelry store.”
“Forget a few hundred million—even a billion would be easy for me to obtain. This is what the Tang family owes me!”
“You… you’re hopeless! I shouldn’t have held out even the slightest hope for you!” Yao Qianqian refused to believe Lin Feng’s words, convinced he was merely bluffing, shaking with anger and disappointment, her head in her hands as she lamented her own misfortune.
Everything Lin Feng said seemed too fantastical, like something straight out of a web novel.
But this was the real world, not a story! The Tang family would never endlessly shelter a complete good-for-nothing. Even if the Tang family owed the Lin family a favor, there were limits—no one would indulge your whims without end!
“Get ready for your job at the company. I have things to do, so I’ll go ahead. Take care of yourself.” Yao Qianqian had originally planned to accompany Lin Feng to work, to remind him of some workplace etiquette and prevent him from making a fool of himself and causing her embarrassment.
But now, she believed what Lin Feng truly needed was the harsh lesson of reality.
Only then would he recognize his own position.
Lin Feng watched Yao Qianqian storm off, unconcerned, thinking to himself, “I, Lin Feng, am the ‘Celestial Emperor of Nine Heavens,’ reigning for a hundred thousand years across the cosmos. Why would I need anyone’s protection? If anything, it is the Tang family who should be praying for mine.”
...
An hour later, Lin Feng arrived at the Yao Group.
He was assigned to the sales department, becoming a salesman.
“Your workstation is here. Here are your badge and handbook. Get familiar with the environment.” The aloof HR manager ushered Lin Feng into his seat, then turned and left.
Lin Feng settled in, memories from his previous life gradually resurfacing.
In his last life, he had fought desperately for the opportunity to join the Yao Group, also in the sales department as a salesman.
But in that life, he had suffered greatly...
“Hey, newcomer! You must be Lin Feng? I’m Wang Lun. Nice to meet you!” Lin Feng turned to see a stylish young man with trendy hair and European streetwear, smiling and replied, “Wang Lun, long time no see!”
Just as in the previous life, his neighbor was Wang Lun, the only friend he’d had in Binhai City.
“Long time no see? You’re a strange one, acting like we’ve known each other forever.” Wang Lun frowned, feeling Lin Feng was a bit odd—almost more familiar than he was.
“You’re new here, so I’ll reluctantly introduce you to our sales department, so you don’t accidentally offend anyone.”
Knowing Wang Lun was a chatterbox and quick to make friends, Lin Feng adopted the confused look of a workplace novice, indulging Wang Lun’s need to talk.
“That guy over there is Liu Jian. He’s the star of our sales department, always the top seller every month, and second in influence only to the manager. I hear his father’s some mid-level government official—a pretty privileged guy. You definitely don’t want to cross him.”
“Sitting next to Liu Jian is Ke Feng, the muscular guy. He’s Liu Jian’s sidekick and was once Binhai City’s lightweight boxing champion—a real tough customer.”
Liu Jian—this man had gone out of his way to suppress Lin Feng in the past life, so Lin Feng knew him well.
As for Ke Feng, Lin Feng had often been beaten up by this fake tough guy in his previous life.
This time, he mused, he might just have the chance to deal with them properly.
“Next are the two department beauties! See that blonde with the wavy hair and tight mini-skirt? That’s Liu Susu, our most glamorous colleague. She’s my type, but she’s always chasing after Liu Jian—a real beauty wasted on him.”
“Beside her is Li Yating, our famous ice queen. Even Liu Jian’s interested, but she keeps everyone at a distance and gives no one any face.”
“As for me, Wang Lun, I’m the most stylish guy here. I know all the latest brands and trends. Check out my look—handsome, right?”
“I’ve got the number of the best stylist in Binhai City. I’ll take you for a makeover, and you’ll become the department’s second most handsome guy. First place, of course, is yours truly!”
“By the way, the sales department is entirely performance-based, with a last-place elimination policy. You get a three-month grace period as a newcomer, but after that, you’ll be in the competition for survival.”
After introducing everyone, Wang Lun patted Lin Feng’s shoulder and returned to his desk.
Lin Feng, unfazed, quickly used his previous life’s memories to familiarize himself with the company’s business.
...
“Hey, Lin Feng, it’s almost noon. No need to work so hard. Come on, let’s eat in the company cafeteria—I’m starving!” Wang Lun slung his arm around Lin Feng, pulling him into the elevator.
Once they exited, Wang Lun dragged Lin Feng along. “You grab us a seat, I’ll queue for food. We’ll split up!”
Watching Wang Lun rush about, Lin Feng smiled and shook his head, finding him just as lively and sunny as before.
Loud and boisterous, but kind-hearted and friendly.
Lin Feng went to their usual spot from his previous life, and Wang Lun soon arrived with two trays piled high with food.
“Hey, how did you know this is the best spot in the whole cafeteria?” Wang Lun set down the dishes—four meat, two vegetables, a sumptuous meal.
“Since you don’t have a meal card yet, I’m treating you today. When you sign your first deal, you can treat me back!”
“Do you know why this is the best spot? Because it faces the entrance—I can see every girl who comes and goes, haha…”
Wang Lun, ever the talker, kept Lin Feng entertained with his chatter.
Lin Feng listened quietly, chiming in from time to time; their conversation was harmonious.
Just as they were enjoying their lunch, a striking young woman in a pleated mini-dress and white stockings walked into the cafeteria, arm-in-arm with Yao Qianqian.
Scanning the room, she spotted Lin Feng, a smile curling on her lips as she strolled over to their table.
“So you’re Lin Feng? Qianqian’s husband, the useless son-in-law of the Yao family? My brother always says a real man would rather die than be a live-in son-in-law—what’s your mindset, to become such a kept man in Qianqian’s house?”
Her words stunned Wang Lun, causing him to spray his soup in shock.
