Chapter Twenty-Two: Ke Feng’s Secret Intentions
Half an hour later, outside the gates of Yao Corporation.
A dozen members of the Sales Department walked out together after work, ready to head to Phoenix Pavilion Grand Hotel.
Suddenly, Ke Feng shouted loudly, “Hey, isn’t that Yao Qianqian? I didn’t expect her to leave work so early today. And who’s that with her? He’s holding roses—looks like he’s come to pick her up!”
With Ke Feng’s prompt, everyone in the Sales Department immediately looked toward the other side of the gate.
Yao Qianqian was dressed in an exquisitely elegant purple silk cheongsam embroidered with auspicious clouds. Her alluring figure was impossible to ignore, her long black hair cascading naturally down her back, her makeup refined and subtle, and she radiated a captivating, intoxicating sensuality unique to Eastern women.
The man who had come to pick her up was wearing a tailored Banilux suit, standing tall and handsome, holding a bouquet of fiery red roses, like a passionate suitor awaiting his beloved.
The two exchanged smiles, Yao Qianqian accepted the roses, and then climbed into the man’s Lamborghini sports car, which sped off into the distance.
With the couple gone, the employees of the Sales Department turned their attention to Lin Feng, searching above his head for a symbolic green hat.
The lunchtime incident in the restaurant had already spread throughout the company; everyone knew Lin Feng’s identity. Ke Feng’s outburst was clearly intentional, meant to humiliate Lin Feng in front of his colleagues.
“Sigh, what’s wrong with my glasses? Why does a green light keep flashing before my eyes? Lin Feng, do you see it too? There’s such a big patch of green!”
Ke Feng’s insinuation that Lin Feng was wearing a green hat set off a wave of laughter among the Sales Department, with many people whispering behind their hands.
Wang Lun, however, was furious. He grabbed Lin Feng’s shoulder and shouted at the laughing crowd, “What’s so funny? Why are you all laughing?”
“Oh, Wang Lun, what’s this? You’re standing up for the new colleague already? So loyal! Why don’t we settle this with a little contest?” Ke Feng cracked his knuckles and looked down at Wang Lun, challenging him with arrogant disdain.
Wang Lun’s face turned green with anger.
“Ke Feng, we’re all colleagues—don’t go too far,” Li Yating interjected, unable to stand by, stepping in to help Lin Feng and Wang Lun.
“Yes, yes, Yating, you’re right. Colleagues ought to care for each other!” Ke Feng, knowing his boss Liu Jian fancied Li Yating, didn’t dare offend his future sister-in-law and quickly backed down with an awkward grin.
While Ke Feng and his friends were pleased with themselves, Lin Feng remained calm and composed.
The man who had just taken Yao Qianqian away was someone Lin Feng could recognize even if he turned to dust.
He was Wang Jie, the eldest son of the Wang family and the brother of Wang Jing.
On the surface, he was the CEO of a tech startup, but in reality, he was the money-laundering front for Long Yaoyang.
Wang Jie had founded an online lending company, orchestrating predatory loans and high-interest internet loans, while Long Yaoyang handled laundering the dirty money through mortgages and violent debt collection.
It was rumored their annual cash flow exceeded a billion yuan. In just two short years, they had made hundreds of millions in profit and driven more than a hundred people to ruin.
These two were partners in crime, their misdeeds too numerous to count.
Now, Wang Jie was putting in so much effort to get close to Yao Qianqian precisely under Long Yaoyang’s orders, aiming to utterly destroy Lin Feng.
…
Wang Lun saw that Lin Feng didn’t care and said nothing more, keeping an arm around Lin Feng’s shoulder as if to comfort him.
Lin Feng understood Wang Lun’s intention and didn’t refuse, feeling a deeper sense of gratitude for this friend.
“All right! The cars are here!” Ke Feng announced loudly.
A Maserati Quattroporte worth more than two million led two BMWs slowly to the company entrance.
Liu Jian stepped out of the Maserati, and Liu Susu immediately dragged Li Yating over to him.
“Liu Jian, how about Yating and I ride in your car?”
Liu Jian glanced at Li Yating unobtrusively and replied with gentlemanly grace, “It’s my honor to have two beautiful ladies in my car.”
Ke Feng hurried over to Liu Jian’s ear, whispering furtively.
Liu Jian’s gaze became deep as he looked at Lin Feng, his face composed.
Lin Feng, already a cultivator with heightened senses, naturally heard Ke Feng’s whisper.
Ke Feng had told Liu Jian about Li Yating stepping in to help Lin Feng, sowing discord and stirring Liu Jian’s resentment.
It seemed that in his past life, Liu Jian’s constant antagonism toward him was entirely due to Ke Feng’s meddling.
Liu Jian began arranging everyone for the cars. Soon all three vehicles were full—except for Lin Feng and Wang Lun, who were left behind.
Liu Jian ignored Lin Feng completely, got in his car, and said with a faint smile, “Sorry, there’s no room left. Lin Feng, you’re the Yao family’s son-in-law—you must have plenty of luxury cars. We’ll go ahead!”
“Exactly! Who is he, after all? The pampered son-in-law living off his wife’s money—buying a car must be easy for him! If not, you can take a cab, though that’s hardly fitting! Young Master Lin is the Yao family’s son-in-law, isn’t that right, everyone?”
Ke Feng was determined to embarrass Lin Feng, refusing to let up.
Wang Lun’s face reddened and his neck thickened with anger, about to argue when Lin Feng stopped him.
Unmoved by material things, untroubled by personal misfortune.
If Lin Feng lacked this composure and cultivation, how could he have roamed the universe for a hundred thousand years and attained supreme immortality?
“Lin Feng, you—”
“Let’s just take a taxi. It’s not far anyway.”
“You… sigh…”
Wang Lun, willing to offend his colleagues to defend Lin Feng, clearly saw Lin Feng as a true friend. Lin Feng would not let that friendship go unrewarded.
The only surprise was that Li Yating actually stepped out of the Maserati and said calmly, “I drove today. Let me give you two a ride—it’ll save me a night’s parking fee.”
“Yating, you—”
“My, who would have thought calamity could turn to blessing! The beautiful Miss Li is showing such kindness—truly a heart of gold!” Wang Lun, thrilled that Li Yating herself would drive them, quickly followed her.
Yet, in Liu Jian’s eyes, Li Yating’s actions meant something else entirely.
“This Lin Feng actually dares to compete with me for Yating! Well, I’ll see how you die tonight!” Liu
