Chapter Twenty-Seven: The Wretched Woman Comes Calling
The ordinary words fell upon Qi Heng’s ears like thunder.
He dared not show the slightest disrespect and hurriedly bowed deeply, his tone reverent as he spoke:
“Mr. Lin, all that has happened here was caused by Wang Haiyang offending you. Please, just give the word, and I guarantee you will be satisfied with how I handle it!”
The meaning between the lines was all too clear: “As long as you say so, Mr. Lin, even if you want Wang Haiyang’s head, I’ll have it brought before you!”
Upon hearing this, Wang Haiyang was completely stupefied.
“Qi, what’s wrong with you? This guy is clearly a country bumpkin and a useless coward, how could you...”
“Wang Haiyang! No, Young Master Wang! It seems you’ve been living a comfortable life for too long! If you want to throw your life away, just jump down from here yourself, no one will stop you. But if you dare show the slightest disrespect to Mr. Lin again, I won’t hesitate to send you straight to hell!”
Qi Heng roared furiously, then delivered another slap across Wang Haiyang’s face.
His heart burned with anger, his face flushed red and twisted with rage as he thought:
It was precisely this Mr. Lin who, with unfathomable means, had dragged Old Master Tang back from death’s door—an immense benefactor to the Tang family.
Moreover, Mr. Lin had single-handedly crippled more than twenty strong bodyguards in less than ten minutes, his methods thunderous and merciless.
He was a person whom the family head had specifically named for investigation and recruitment.
Wang Jisheng might be considered a major figure in Binhai’s underworld, but in the end, he was just the Tang family’s hidden hand in the city’s shadows.
To put it bluntly, he was nothing more than the Tang family’s dog, their black-gloved hand for dirty work.
No matter how high and mighty Wang Haiyang thought himself, he was just the son of the Tang family’s dog. To dare offend Mr. Lin, whom the Tang family was desperate to win over—he was courting death!
If Mr. Lin were to bear a grudge against the Tang family because of this, it would be a loss the family could not endure.
Qi Heng, ever shrewd and discerning, understood this perfectly. There was no way he would risk offending Lin Feng for the sake of a mere Wang Haiyang and bring disaster upon the Tangs.
At last, Wang Haiyang began to recover from his shock at Qi Heng’s snarling, his neck stiff as he stared, dumbfounded, at Lin Feng.
“Did I really provoke a tiger today?”
“What’s the matter, Young Master Wang? Do you still not understand who you’ve crossed?”
As he spoke, Lin Feng gave a cold, amused smile and drew from his pocket the Tang family’s jade medallion, flicking his wrist.
The jade disk shot forth like a bullet, slicing through the air, piercing straight through a solid wooden cabinet, and embedding itself three inches deep into the iron door with a resounding clang.
Wang Haiyang turned to look and instantly felt his scalp go numb.
This move was as supernatural as something out of a martial arts film—and the object thrown was none other than the Tang family’s guest medallion, the Tang Emblem Jade Disk!
In that instant, a Tang family directive flashed through Wang Haiyang’s mind:
Recently, a new guest of the Tang family will appear in Binhai, bearing the Tang Emblem Jade Disk. All Tang affiliates must treat him with the highest respect. Any failure will result in expulsion from the Tang family, never to be reinstated!
At this thought, Wang Haiyang swallowed hard, cold sweat streaming down his forehead and soaking his back.
With a thud, the once peerless Young Master Wang—supreme in both legal and illegal circles—finally yielded, trembling as he knelt before Lin Feng.
“Mr. Lin, I failed to see your true status and didn’t recognize who you were! I beg you, for Qi’s sake, spare me this once!”
Wang Haiyang bowed his head, pleading for mercy, his whole body shaking.
“Mr. Lin, as long as you give the order, I will deal with this fool Wang Haiyang right here and now!”
Qi Heng chimed in at the perfect moment, his tone outwardly resolute and fierce, but in truth, he was shielding Wang Haiyang.
Lin Feng frowned slightly at the scene.
The Tang family was the local power in Binhai; it would be inappropriate to undermine them by killing their dog in front of their own people.
As the saying goes, one must look to the owner before beating the dog. Lin Feng had lived a hundred thousand years and contended with countless cunning prodigies; how could he not understand these subtleties?
Thus, Lin Feng decided to raise his hand high, but let it fall gently.
“You are one of the Tang family. I won’t deal with you myself—Qi Heng will handle it. But let this be the last time. If it happens again, no matter who tries to intervene, I will take your worthless life.”
“Thank you, Mr. Lin! Thank you! I swear on my life, even if I had ten times the courage, I would never dare cross you again!”
Wang Haiyang immediately swore an oath, desperate to save his own skin, while Qi Heng secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
Lin Feng cast Wang Haiyang a glance, waved his hand, and strode away in style.
Qi Heng rushed to retrieve Lin Feng’s Tang Emblem Jade Disk from the door and hurried to catch up with him.
Wang Lun and Li Yating were completely stunned. They had expected a brutal fight, but who could have guessed Lin Feng would just say a few words and force the arrogant Wang Haiyang to kneel and beg for forgiveness?
Wang Lun dumbly swallowed, slapped himself hard to be sure he wasn’t dreaming, and only then managed to recover.
“My brother... is even more formidable than Wang Haiyang! Then doesn’t that make me...”
“Hey, wait for me, Lin Feng...”
Wang Lun suddenly realized a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was right in front of him. There was no way he could let go—he had to cling to it for dear life.
As the saying goes, when one person rises to power, even the chickens and dogs around him ascend to heaven. If he was to be a chicken or a dog, he’d rather be a great one at that!
Li Yating, meanwhile, was far more reserved than Wang Lun.
Still, her heart fluttered, and the image of Lin Feng’s nonchalant, unrestrained figure began to take shape in her mind—a silhouette that was none other than Lin Feng himself.
Wang Haiyang, feeling as if he had been granted a royal pardon, slowly got up from the floor and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
Looking at Lin Feng’s departing back, his gaze drifted to the dent in the door, and he couldn’t help but recall how Lin Feng had tossed out the jade disk as if flinging a leaf.
If he had aimed for his own forehead, wouldn’t his head have been blown open on the spot?
Such skill was sharper than any bullet!
Having narrowly escaped death, Wang Haiyang suddenly thought of something and quickly dialed his phone:
“Dad, I’ve found someone who can defeat Cheng Longjian! If we can recruit him, Cheng Longjian is nothing!”
...
Qi Heng, now acting as a most obedient chauffeur, drove the Rolls-Royce Phantom and delivered Lin Feng to the gates of Shuiyue Community.
He personally got out, opened the door for Lin Feng with great deference, and respectfully said:
“Mr. Lin, the Tang family will soon be holding an auction. At the core of the event will be a ‘Treasure Duel’ among the top figures of the two cities. Old Master Tang wishes to invite you to attend. Here is the invitation.”
Qi Heng presented a red and gold invitation card and the Tang Emblem Jade Disk with both hands.
At the mention of the Treasure Duel, Lin Feng suddenly recalled Qin Guanyun, whom he had met on Phoenix Street, and asked:
“Will Qin Guanyun be there as well?”
“Mr. Lin, you know Qin the Appraiser? He has been invited by Old Master Feng, another major figure in Binhai, to act as an appraiser. It’s said that this Treasure Duel will feature sorcerers and spirit artifacts.”
Qi Heng spared no detail, hoping to entice Lin Feng to attend the event.
Hearing that there would be sorcerers and spirit artifacts, Lin Feng hesitated no longer. He accepted the invitation and took back the Tang Emblem Jade Disk.
“Tell Old Master Tang, Lin Feng will certainly attend.”
“Thank you, Mr. Lin! Then I shall await your arrival at the Treasure Duel!”
With a wave of his hand, Lin Feng indicated it was time for Qi Heng to leave. Understanding, Qi Heng bowed respectfully and drove off.
...
At the entrance of Building Three, Shuiyue Community.
A fiery red Lamborghini was parked right outside. At the sight of it, Lin Feng frowned slightly.
This was Wang Jie’s car. Two hours earlier, Wang Jie had driven this very car to pick up Yao Qianqian at the Yao Group offices.
Which meant that, at this very moment, Wang Jie—the wretch—was in Lin Feng’s home.
