Chapter 25: Did You Really Think You Could Get Away?

First of all, the watcher was human.
Any human being with a reasonably sound mind would have found their thoughts completely blank upon witnessing such a scene.
He watched, wide-eyed, as a brain crawled out of the man’s head like a cockroach. He watched as that brain swung its two eyeballs back and forth, and saw the two dark, empty sockets. The watcher, who had worn a ferocious expression only moments ago, now stood frozen-faced.
Damn it! That boss had never said they would be dealing with monsters!
Only now did the watcher realize how serious the situation was—but it was already too late.
The brain lived by the principle that if it could act, there was no need to waste words. It zigzagged toward the hound with human arms and slammed one of its eyeballs down!
At the same time, Zhou Mo arrived before the watcher, wielding the Holy Sword of Physics, and smashed it straight into his face!
Simple. Brutal. Unadorned.
Under ordinary circumstances, the watcher could have dodged such an attack with ease, perhaps even used the opportunity to toy with his opponent.
But now, his vital regions had taken a heavy blow. Even the slightest movement below the waist sent waves of agony through him.
He could only watch helplessly as the crowbar and those two black, empty sockets drew closer and closer. Panic seized him, and he forgot how to respond. He thrust out both hands, apparently intending to seize the crowbar—but he never imagined that Zhou Mo’s target was not his upper body at all!
After rushing past him, Zhou Mo brushed against the watcher’s side. He gripped the Holy Sword of Physics, hooked the curved end around the watcher’s thigh, and gave it a hard yank!
Caught completely off guard, the watcher was forced into a split.
For him, it was no different from salt being rubbed into an open wound.
“Gaaah!”
The watcher’s face flushed crimson as he howled. His entire body curled up like a giant shrimp, crumpling to the ground. Zhou Mo, however, raised the Holy Sword of Physics once more and brought it down viciously on his arm!
Crack!
The watcher’s arm snapped. The pain twisted his features out of shape, and all he could do was cast a desperate look toward the subconscious monster nearby.
“Save me!”
But when he turned his head, he froze.
The brain was swinging its two eyeballs with astonishing force. One eyeball smashed into the hound’s arm, snapping it instantly.
The hound’s arm, strong enough to twist steel apart, was as fragile as cardboard before that eyeball. The human arms that had replaced its four paws were broken one after another.
This hound with human arms was a subconscious monster the watcher had tamed through some special method. Strictly speaking, it possessed no physical body. So long as it remained connected to the human subconscious, it could live forever.
Yet, strangely, the watcher noticed that every time the eyeball struck the hound, the creature became a little more transparent.
Damn it!

This brain was devouring the subconscious monster!
What the hell were these two things?
Thud!
The Holy Sword of Physics was stabbed into the ground in front of the watcher. Zhou Mo, bearing two empty sockets, looked down at him and asked, “Can you tell me now?”
“Tell me who sent you to kill me.”
Gulp…
From the corner of his eye, the watcher studied Zhou Mo’s monstrous appearance. Lying on the ground, he could see the moon through those hollow sockets. The waning moon’s light shone like Zhou Mo’s eyes, casting an eerie glow through the darkness.
“I…”
“I don’t know who he is.”
When human beings confronted the unknown, their psychological defenses were always broken with astonishing ease.
“As expected, you really don’t know anything…”
Zhou Mo sighed and pulled the Holy Sword of Physics from the ground. “Then you’re of no use to me. Now that you’ve seen me like this, I can’t afford to let you live.”
Zhou Mo knew perfectly well that the city guards could never learn of his current appearance. Thus, from the moment he began chasing the watcher, he had already steeled himself to silence him. He had even prepared the explanation he would give afterward.
The watcher hurriedly clamped his legs together and shouted, “No! I still know something! Don’t kill me—I’ll tell you everything!”
But while Zhou Mo was still hesitating over whether to strike, the brain, having already finished with its opponent, scurried up his arm. Wrapping its eyeballs around both his hands, it swung them down with all its strength!
Bang!
“Ahhh!”
The watcher raised his hands to block the blow, but the broken bones pierced through his arm, and blood immediately poured from the wound.
Blood splashed across Zhou Mo’s face, specks of crimson lending his expression an eerie cast.
Zhou Mo remained silent for a long while, feeling as though the weight of his sins had grown heavier.
At that moment, however, the brain gave him a meaningful “look” from where it clung to his arm. Zhou Mo immediately understood and nodded.
“You’re saying it doesn’t matter even if he dies? That once we take out his brain, we’ll be able to find out anyway?”
“You really are the reliable one.”
Watcher: !!!!
Were these things monsters or lunatics?
How had he managed to read so many words from those wildly circling eyeballs?

Moreover, the brain really was just as that monster had claimed—it showed absolutely no restraint when it attacked.
If that last blow had actually landed on his head, he would have been dead for sure!
Zhou Mo forcibly exhaled a breath of stale air, raised the crowbar, and prepared to deliver the watcher’s final blow.
The watcher hurriedly cried out, “Wait!”
“He called me at noon today! He was using a voice changer, but I felt that there was something strange about the way he spoke…”
Before the watcher could finish, the roar of an engine and the screech of brakes rang out from the street behind them.
“Oh no, it’s Xia An!”
“How did she get here so quickly?”
Zhou Mo’s heart jolted. The brain also swiftly burrowed back into his head and sealed the top of his skull.
But in that brief instant when Zhou Mo’s attention was distracted, the watcher gritted his teeth, endured the pain, and kicked off the ground, lunging toward the hound’s remains.
“Take me away!”
The instant the watcher’s hand touched the hound, his expression suddenly became listless. At the same time, the nearly transparent hound on the ground abruptly grew solid again.
The hound began swelling at a visible rate. In the span of only two breaths, it transformed into a monster more than two meters tall!
Seeing the creature raise its pitch-black human arms as though it were about to seize him, Zhou Mo’s heart tightened, and he instinctively took a step back.
At that moment, hurried footsteps sounded behind him. A clear woman’s voice shouted, “Zhou Mo, get down!”
Zhou Mo hurriedly ducked his head.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The roar of six bullets rang through the little park. Six bullet holes instantly appeared in the giant hound’s body.
“Go!”
The watcher’s weak voice emerged from within the hound’s body. The creature could only lower itself and roar furiously at the two of them before leaping high into the air and vanishing from the little park.
Zhou Mo covered the empty socket of his right eye with one hand. With the other, he gripped the crowbar tightly, a smile curling across his face.
Did you really think you could get away?
