Chapter 33: This Thing Is Pretty Weak

Those long, snow-white legs covered in spikes were impossible for Zhou Mo to ignore.
Clearly, however, the woman in front of him had no idea that he could see the pair of enormous legs behind her.
“Please! Can you stop worrying about the dog for now? Saving someone is more important!”
The woman paid no attention to the dog. She seized Zhou Mo by the arm and tried to pull him forward, but then she finally noticed the sunglasses on his face.
She suddenly exclaimed in what sounded like delighted surprise, “You’re blind?”
Zhou Mo chuckled. “That’s right.”
No wonder that man hadn’t looked down at me just now. He’s blind…
“Even so, you have to help me.”
Zhou Mo nodded and released the leash, allowing the woman to support him. “Then lead me there.”
The woman extended her pale hand and hooked it around Zhou Mo’s arm. She glanced at the dense, shadowy forest surrounding them.
“Come on. My friend is over here.”
With a quick rustle, the dog vanished into the grass, and the woman merely glanced in its direction before losing interest.
It was only a dog.
The woman out for a night run still had no idea how serious the situation was. Zhou Mo, meanwhile, was silently recalling the information about the “long-legged stalker who hunts night runners.”
He vaguely remembered that the City Guard had received more than a dozen reports related to the case. In the beginning, three people had been attacked while out running at night by a long-legged stalker.
Perhaps because the creature had lacked experience, all three had narrowly escaped and lived to give statements.
But in the incidents that followed, six victims had been brutally killed. Only one professional athlete had managed to survive through sheer physical prowess. In his recollection, all he could remember was a pair of enormous white legs chasing him from behind, as though they wanted to stomp him to death at any moment.
I was a little careless…
The killer still hasn’t been caught. And this idiot went out alone without even bringing his brain along. If I run into something like this, I really have no idea how things will turn out…
I may have some fighting ability, but this is still my first time facing a subconscious monster on my own. Hopefully the dog brain will prove useful when the time comes.
Muttering inwardly, Zhou Mo allowed the woman to drag him deep into the forest. After all, this was his first time deliberately provoking a subconscious monster, and he had no real confidence in how things would go.
The woman looked left and right. Only after confirming that no one could possibly notice them did she finally stop.
Pretending to be blind, Zhou Mo asked, “Is this the place? Where is your friend?”
The corners of the woman’s mouth nearly reached her ears. Her hips shifted grotesquely upward, almost to the level of her chest, while her body continued stretching taller. In the blink of an eye, she had grown to more than two meters in height.
“Friend? I’ve never had any friends. But soon, you’ll be lying in the morgue!”
The woman’s voice sharpened. Spikes began sprouting from her long, pale legs, while the sneakers on her feet transformed into sharp, jointed limbs.

The woman’s expression grew sickly and feverish, as though she were eagerly anticipating what would happen next.
Zhou Mo, however, let out a sigh of relief and muttered, “At least kicking you won’t be much of a burden in this form…”
The woman stuck out her long tongue and licked her lips. She had not heard him clearly.
“What did you say?”
Zhou Mo shook his head. “Nothing. Can I ask you something? Why do you want to kill me?”
The woman frowned strangely. What was wrong with this blind man?
Why was he so calm? Had he simply given up resisting?
But the woman was too caught up in the excitement to think about it. She split her mouth into a sinister grin and laughed.
“I hate anything that gets in my way, whether it’s people or animals.”
“I love the feeling of knocking people down while I’m running. And I love the sensation of crushing the little animals that get in my way on the track even more.”
“Do you know what I especially love? The sound of internal organs being crushed beneath my feet. It’s the most satisfying thing in the world!”
The woman repeatedly stabbed the ground around Zhou Mo with her two sharp, elongated legs, as though she were toying with her prey.
Yet she soon realized that the blind man neither dodged nor flinched. Instead, he nodded thoughtfully.
“I see. So this is the malice born from being influenced by a subconscious monster.”
“Indiscriminate violence. No wonder the City Guard is always run off its feet.”
Zhou Mo sighed and raised his head.
“To think a perfectly normal person could become such a hideous, inhuman thing. What a pity.”
Silver moonlight pierced the forest, casting mottled shadows across Zhou Mo’s face. In the shifting light and darkness, the woman seemed to see two bottomless whirlpools beneath his sunglasses.
A sinister wind swept through the trees, as if those two whirlpools were sucking away the light around them.
An inexplicable chill seized the woman’s heart. She suddenly realized that the man before her was not blind at all!
An instinctive fear seized her. She immediately raised one leg, preparing to spear the strange man with its sharp, slender length.
But the instant she lifted her leg, Zhou Mo moved first!
Taking advantage of the opening, he spun around and delivered a handsome roundhouse kick, striking the monster’s narrow leg—the one still planted on the ground—dead center.
The second move of unrestricted combat: stomp on the toes!
The woman had no toes, but Zhou Mo’s kick carried tremendous force. A sharp crack rang out from the spiked leg.
“Ah!”
The woman’s shriek tore through the tranquil night. Only then did she realize that there was something wrong with the man before her.
During her previous attacks, even when ordinary people tried to resist, they had been completely unable to touch her.

The woman’s legs had already transformed completely into a bone-like structure. Zhou Mo’s kick had nearly broken one of them.
She had relied on the fact that, while possessed by a subconscious monster, no one could touch her, and had committed all manner of atrocities with impunity. The moment she discovered that someone could actually hurt her, she immediately lost the courage to fight back.
“Get away from me!”
Overcome by pain, the woman shouted and fled into the forest without looking back. But she never imagined that, at that very moment, a dark shape suddenly burst from the bushes.
The shadow tugged at its leash and darted back and forth around her feet, wrapping the leash tightly around both of her legs.
Damn it! That dog!
Her once-prized long legs had now become a complete burden. Her body pitched forward uncontrollably, and she threw up both hands to shield her face.
“No! Don’t!”
Two sharp cracks rang out as she slammed into the ground. The force of the fall was too much for her two ordinary human arms to bear, and both of them broke.
To make matters worse, there was a stone directly in front of her. If her arms had not absorbed some of the impact, Zhou Mo might have collected another brain.
The woman lay sprawled on the ground, her miserable face twitching as she seemed to have lost all ability to resist.
Zhou Mo curled his lips, reached up, and lifted the top of his skull. He ruffled the dog brain twice, then let it crawl back inside.
“Nice work. I’ll reward you with a bag of glucose when we get back.”
“But I’m starting to think subconscious monsters aren’t all that difficult to deal with. I wasted all that time preparing myself…”
After closing his skull, Zhou Mo took out his phone and called Xia An without a second thought.
“What is it this time? In the middle of the night?”
From Xia An’s hazy voice, she sounded as though she had been asleep.
Zhou Mo scratched his cheek, feeling slightly embarrassed. “It’s nothing serious. I just caught a subconscious monster.”
“The long-legged one from the information you gave me.”
Xia An: “What?”
“Are you joking? I only gave you that information three or four hours ago!”
Zhou Mo shrugged. “Can’t be helped. This thing was pretty weak.”
