Chapter 6: Got You!
Only when Zhou Mo saw Xia An’s sports car pull away from the gate of the old apartment complex did he finally heave a sigh of relief.
His brain lifted his skullcap and crawled out from within. Man and brain "stared" at each other, both capable of "sensing" the nervousness in the other.
Zhou Mo sighed faintly. "I think we need to move faster. That woman is not simple; just now, I constantly felt as if I were being seen right through."
The brain seemed to agree with Zhou Mo's assessment, as its two eyeballs crossed in front of itself and then nodded heavily.
"Since the City Guard already has leads, I suppose we’ll have to find the other killer before they do. This sounds both thrilling and illegal..."
Although he had only indirectly been responsible for someone’s death, there was a voice in Zhou Mo’s heart constantly reminding him not to break the law.
When it came to this other killer, the brain seemed to grow angry. Its two eyeballs lashed out in the air, creating a whistling sound as they sliced through the space, as if it were dying to tear the culprit to pieces right then and there.
Feeling the force of the eyeballs ripping through the air, Zhou Mo couldn't help but lean back.
Is this what a scientist’s brain is like? Can "knowledge is power" be manifested in such a literal way?
Zhou Mo thought for a moment and interrupted the brain’s frenzy: "You were the other party involved. Do you remember what the killer looked like, or do you have any useful information?"
The brain stopped, then shook its body from side to side in a well-behaved manner. As if fearing Zhou Mo wouldn't understand, it flipped over onto the ground, lying flat, its small tentacles twitching.
Zhou Mo understood immediately. "You mean the killer knocked both you and Liu Tianyou unconscious, so you didn't see anything?"
The brain used its eyeballs to push off the floor and stood straight up, nodding up and down.
"Well, that’s a problem." Zhou Mo pressed his temples. "That means our leads have hit a dead end."
"By the way, do you have any other ideas..."
Zhou Mo still wanted to pin his hopes on this genius brain, but when he looked down, he found the brain was gone. Turning to look for it, he discovered it had crawled back onto the pillow, nesting into a small depression.
"Hey, hey, hey! Can you stop sleeping?"
"You are, after all, the brain of a top-tier scientist!"
"You’re definitely much smarter than someone like me who has no brain, right?"
In truth, Zhou Mo didn't really expect the brain to offer him any advice; he just felt a sense of security having the brain tucked back inside when he was trying to think.
However, just as Zhou Mo walked over and reached out a hand, the brain suddenly whipped an eyeball around, swatting his hand away. It then shifted its body to expose its backside to him.
The eyeball gestured threateningly before it settled back into the skullcap, rising and falling as it went still.
The movement seemed to say: If you dare disturb my sleep again, I’ll beat you to death.
Heh...
It seems Liu Tianyou didn't have a very good temper.
"Looks like I’ll have to figure this out on my own. But can eyeballs really be that hard? Was what Liu Tianyou researching actually science?"
Zhou Mo rubbed his aching hand, muttering the second half of the sentence under his breath.
Seeing that the brain seemed to have fallen into a deep sleep, Zhou Mo rubbed his face, organized his thoughts, and sat at the computer desk, shaking his head.
Feeling the cool air enter his eye sockets and blow through his head, Zhou Mo quickly entered a focused state.
In the lingering memories of his predecessor, there was no mention of the Mercer Clinic, nor any reaction to the markings on those surgical tools, which meant his predecessor had indeed never heard of it.
So, the question arose: How did those two killers know about his situation and find their way here?
His predecessor was a person of little presence, having graduated not long ago. His phone’s contact list had fewer than ten people, and his chat software was as empty as his head.
His predecessor’s social circle was shockingly simple, and with no close friends or family, he perfectly fit the profile of a victim.
How did the Mercer Clinic and those two killers find out?
Thinking of this, Zhou Mo immediately checked the computer and phone for any useful information. After opening his email and chat software, he discovered that the most frequent contact his predecessor had was with job recruitment information.
However, one message caught Zhou Mo’s attention.

"Looking at it, this seems to be the only thing that could have any connection to the Mercer Clinic. Given my predecessor’s financial situation, it’s unlikely he would go to such an expensive private clinic for a check-up. So, was the personal information leaked when he went through a different channel for the exam?"
Tsk...
Even with this lead, Zhou Mo still couldn't find where his predecessor had gone for his medical exam.
Clatter!
While he was deep in thought, Zhou Mo heard a noise behind him. Turning his head, he discovered the brain had crawled off the bed and was rummaging through the trash can!
"Hey! You’re a brain, not a dog!"
"The trash can is filthy! Don’t just rummage through it!"
"How are you supposed to get back into my head like this?"
Zhou Mo walked over quickly to stop the brain, only to see it emerge from the trash can, clutching a crumpled piece of paper with its eyeballs, and hold it out to him.
"This is..."
"You want me to see it?"
Zhou Mo leaned down, puzzled, and took the paper. After unfolding it, he realized it was a medical examination receipt!
It clearly stated Zhou Mo’s home address and contact number. In the fields for personal relationships and emergency contacts, "none" was filled in.
Looking at the name "Sunshine Medical Hospital" at the top and the signature of Liao Feng at the bottom, the two pitch-black abysses on Zhou Mo’s face curved into a smile.
"Got you."
...
Meanwhile, Xia An and the yellow-haired man had returned to the City Guard office on Zhongshan Street.
Zhang Huaian, the yellow-haired man, bit his straw, looking puzzled. "Captain, how exactly did you smell blood in his room? I really didn't see anything wrong with that kid!"
Xia An sat gracefully at her desk, holding two long needles and knitting wool back and forth—an image that didn't match her outfit at all.
Xia An yawned. "It’s an ability I gained after becoming a Deep Diver. Once you pass your assessment, I’ll teach you how to become one, so you don't need to keep reminding me."
Zhang Huaian smiled sheepishly, his square face appearing unexpectedly shy.
"My little ruse was spotted. But really, how did you know something was wrong with him?"
At this, Xia An’s expression soured. "I was so suggestive when I walked into his room, I even pushed my cleavage up for him to see, yet all he cared about were the details of the case!"
"You remember we checked his file before we went, right?"
"That kid is just a fresh graduate who hasn't even grown all his hair yet. He’s at that age where hormones are rampant, the kind of stage where seeing an arm makes them think of thighs, but there was nothing of me in that little bastard’s eyes!"
"Also, his complexion was excessively pale; he seemed to have symptoms of anemia."
"And his name was on that list. Do you think there’s something wrong with him?"
*I had so many eye-catching accessories on, yet he didn't even look at them once.*
Zhang Huaian nodded with a straight face. "Indeed. Should we bring him in for questioning now?"
Xia An looked at the needlework in her hands and shook her head meaningfully.
"No rush."
"If he really is a Brain-Eater, after hearing the news I dropped, he won't be able to sit still. That information was meant for his ears. I’m betting he’s going to head out."
Xia An gave a seductive, charming laugh.
"Keep a close watch on him. I have a feeling..."
"We’re going to reel in a big fish through him!"
