Chapter 9: Who Dares Touch My People?
Seeing a living person transform into a monster right before his eyes, it was impossible for Zhou Mo not to be shocked.
"Is this what a subconscious monster is?"
Zhou Mo stared at the giant bat’s razor-sharp fangs and couldn't help but swallow hard. This was no longer some illusory shadow; it was a real, tangible monster!
As the giant bat that廖峰 (Liao Feng) had become opened its maw and lunged, Zhou Mo took a deep breath and rolled across the ground, narrowly dodging the attack. At the same time, a large, circular cockroach scurried out from under a car not far from Zhou Mo's feet.
The giant cockroach moved with incredible speed, leaping into the air and raising its eyeball to smash it fiercely against the giant bat’s head!
*Thud!*
The heavy sound echoed sharply through the underground parking garage.
Seeing that the Brain had scored a hit, Zhou Mo wasn't about to be outdone. Taking advantage of the giant bat’s momentary disorientation, Zhou Mo lunged forward and delivered a powerful soccer-style kick, aiming squarely between the beast’s legs. Since only Liao Feng’s upper body had transformed into the bat while his lower half remained human, this was the only weak point Zhou Mo could find.
He felt the sensation of his foot hitting something soft that quickly turned hard; his mind instinctively conjured the image of cracking an egg.
Seeing Zhou Mo’s move, the giant bat had already spread its arms, intending to grab him, but it never expected this kick, which made the creature’s eyes bulge nearly out of their sockets. A high-pitched, weak sound escaped its throat as its body trembled and slowly slumped to its knees.
The Brain seized the opportunity, moved behind the bat, and raised its eyeball, preparing to deliver another hammer-blow to its spine!
But at that moment, the shirt on Liao Feng’s body suddenly shredded, and a membrane of flesh stretched out, connecting his waist to his wrists. The giant bat flailed its arms, creating a gust of wind that blew the Brain away. It then launched itself into the air, let out a piercing shriek at Zhou Mo, and fled toward the depths of the garage, legs splayed awkwardly.
The Brain, having been sent flying onto the roof of a car, bounced twice before glaring indignantly in the direction the bat had escaped. Without a second thought, it gave chase.
Zhou Mo wanted to rush after them, but he heard heavy footsteps approaching from behind. With no time to think, he quickly pulled his hat down and adjusted his sunglasses; he didn't want to be exposed in his current state.
He had just readied himself to pursue when a flashy, yellow-haired man appeared before him, pointing a handgun his way.
"Don't move! Hands up!"
Zhou Mo’s heart skipped a beat. *Damn it!*
"How did someone from the City Guard end up here?"
"Did he see what I looked like just now?"
As Zhou Mo frantically searched for an excuse, a woman’s scream erupted from the depths of the parking garage.
"Ah!!"
"There’s a monster!"
"Ah!"
"Help me!"
The piercing cry shattered the heavy air and provided Zhou Mo with an opening.
He quickly pointed in the direction the giant bat had fled and shouted, "Quick! That Dr. Liao Feng turned into a giant bat! I kicked him just now, and he ran that way!"
Zhang Huaian was stunned by the shout. He shuddered at the words "giant bat," then gritted his teeth, glancing at the man in the sunglasses and hat, torn between arresting him and saving the victim.
*Wee-woo! Wee-woo!*
"Help me! Someone save me!"
The blaring of car alarms merged with the sound of someone pounding on a vehicle. Zhang Huaian hesitated no longer. He glared at Zhou Mo and growled, "Stay right there!"
Then, without looking back, he sprinted toward the source of the screams. Arresting Zhou Mo was important, but saving a life took precedence!
Zhang Huaian had only taken two steps when he heard footsteps behind him. Expecting Zhou Mo to try and flee, he was surprised to see the man trailing right behind him, his expression beneath the dark lenses looking even more anxious than his own.
How could Zhou Mo not be anxious? His Brain had chased after that giant bat!
Moments later, the two reached the scene, just in time to see the giant bat, legs still clamped together, crouched on top of a white sedan. It had shattered the windshield and was trying to drag a woman out.
Zhang Huaian was clearly panicked. Ignoring Zhou Mo behind him, he leveled his gun at the bat and shouted, "Let her go, or I’ll shoot!"
The giant bat merely cast a cold glance at the two. Using the claws on its wings, it grabbed the woman’s calf and bit down hard. Zhou Mo could clearly see the razor-sharp fangs piercing her leg, and the poor woman fainted from the shock.
Zhou Mo’s heart sank—the bat was feeding on human blood!
Seeing this, Zhang Huaian could wait no longer. He raised his weapon and fired three shots at the giant bat!
*Bang! Bang! Bang!*
The ear-splitting gunshots echoed through the garage, yet the three bullets only made the giant bat stagger slightly; they didn't even break its skin!
"Damn it! If only I were a Deep Diver!"
"What do I do?"
Zhang Huaian was frantic, but Zhou Mo silently signaled to the Brain hiding nearby.
*Go! Save her!*
The Brain scurried out from under a car, climbed onto the vehicle, and once again smashed its eyeball into the bat’s head with all its might!
To Zhang Huaian, it looked like some semi-circular object had hammered the bat’s head, causing bright red blood to flow from the wound as if it had sustained a heavy blow.
*What on earth was that?*
But Zhang Huaian had no time to ponder. He pulled a pair of specialized handcuffs from his belt and charged toward the fallen bat, gun raised. He fired as he moved, aiming his shots directly at the wound on the bat’s head.
The bat seemed dazed by the Brain’s strike, lying motionless on the ground, twitching only as the bullets struck its body.
However, as Zhang Huaian cautiously stepped forward to cuff the creature’s claws, the giant bat suddenly snapped its eyes open and lunged, jaws wide, toward his throat!
Seeing this, Zhou Mo panicked and shouted, "Look out!"
The Brain, already coiled to strike, prepared to intervene.
At that critical, hair-breadth moment, a long, elegant leg appeared before Zhang Huaian, delivering a kick that sent the giant bat flying into the air.
The upward strike was followed immediately by a spinning front kick that slammed into the bat’s chest. The sound of cracking bones echoed clearly throughout the garage.
In just two kicks, the giant bat—which had been impervious to bullets—was left gasping its final breaths.
Xia An brushed off her leather pants, which were still shimmering in the air, and slowly lowered her leg. She pulled a woman’s cigarette from the small pouch on her arm and lit it.
"Damn it, trying to touch my people?"
"Take a look at yourself, you piece of trash."
