Chapter 92: No Early Romance
From the moment I first laid eyes on you, my heart was no longer my own. It beats fiercely and wildly at every moment, reminding me that you have already fallen into the depths of my heart and taken root in my mind. There are words I have long wished to say, but never found the chance. I am not someone adept at expressing myself, so I can only use this letter to tell you how I feel.
Ruan Cha, I truly, truly like you. I don’t know how you feel about me now, but I hope I might receive your reply.
— Yun Zhe
Gu Zhenzhi read every word of the love letter without missing a single character.
The boy’s handwriting was elegant, not wild and unruly like most boys’. Each stroke was deliberate, gentle yet firm.
It seemed to reflect his character.
Gu Zhenzhi’s eyes, dark as ink, lingered on the letter. His slender, pale fingers lightly pinched the edge of the paper. His sickly, fragile skin was even whiter than the letter itself, almost translucent upon close inspection.
A feeling impossible to describe rose from his chest, swirling in his heart.
A sudden, inexplicable irritation.
The air grew heavy.
Gu Zhenzhi lowered his gaze, the jet-black strands of hair falling across his forehead, stark against his cold, pale skin.
“Zhenzhi brother!” Ruan Cha had already run ahead to the elevator, only to discover Gu Zhenzhi was not behind her. She waved at him as he stepped out of the car nearby.
Gu Zhenzhi tightened his grip on the letter behind his back, walked to the trash bin, and tore the letter to shreds, dropping the pieces inside.
“Chen Yan, look into Yun Zhe from Ruan Cha’s class.”
“Yes.”
After entering the apartment, Ruan Cha went first to the balcony to check on the little spice seedlings she was growing. She tended to them briefly, and when she turned around, she saw Gu Zhenzhi’s gaze quietly fixed on her back.
“Zhenzhi brother, what’s with that look?” Ruan Cha walked in from the glass door, raised her hand, and waved it before Gu Zhenzhi’s eyes.
Her delicate, fair fingers waved back and forth before him. Gu Zhenzhi was fully alert; he lowered his eyes, the girl’s face reflected in his dark gaze. “Are there many people in your class who like you?”
Ruan Cha was puzzled by his question. She tilted her head. “I don’t know. Probably not? No one’s confessed to me. They all seem to like Ruan Wei more.”
At this, a sudden thought flashed through Ruan Cha’s mind. She leaned closer, her eyes clear and shining, unbelievably beautiful. “Gu Zhenzhi! Why are you asking? Do you like me?”
Gu Zhenzhi leaned back, avoiding Ruan Cha, his gaze flickering for a moment.
“I just wanted to remind you, no early romance.”
Ruan Cha: “…??”
“What’s this? You’re policing my love life now?”
The girl’s muttered words drifted into his ears. Gu Zhenzhi’s lips curled slightly, his gaze deepening. “If Master Shen comes and finds out his apprentice has been deceived for both money and affection, I’ll have to answer for it.”
His words were measured, his tone cool, as if he genuinely feared getting entangled in trouble.
Ruan Cha pouted, her indignant little gaze fixed on Gu Zhenzhi’s face. “Gu Zhenzhi! You think falling in love means I’ll be cheated out of money and affection? Am I really that dumb???”
“How could you not?” Gu Zhenzhi crossed his arms leisurely, raising his brows, his expression saying: Isn’t that exactly how you are?
As soon as he finished speaking, Ruan Cha stomped her foot in frustration, spun around, and headed upstairs, her face twisted in annoyance as she went.
Damn it.
Gu Zhenzhi is such a bastard!
