Chapter 30: Taking Her to the Rooftop
"Don't overthink it. Xu Jie just likes to stir up trouble when there's nothing to do. I'll speak to his parents about this, and I'll make sure you get an explanation," Shen Jie said firmly, resolutely refusing to allow Nuan Cha to suffer any harm in his class.
"Thank you, Teacher," Nuan Cha looked at Shen Jie with gratitude, a faint glimmer of hope igniting in her eyes.
"But you, Nuan Cha, I watched your performance in class today—not very enthusiastic. Even if your foundation is weak, you can't give up on yourself like this. I've already made it clear: I'm going to turn you into one of the top students in our grade," Shen Jie spoke earnestly.
Hearing Shen Jie's heartfelt words, Nuan Cha wondered to herself—if she revealed that she'd already taken the college entrance exam and was even the top scorer, would it shock him?
She sighed at the thought. Forget it. Saying that would only drag out issues with her records. Her real academic file had long been kept by a special agency.
"Teacher, I—" Nuan Cha had just begun to speak when Li Junmei's sharp voice interrupted.
"Teacher Shen, please stop making jokes. If you hope she can be trained into a top student, you might as well believe a pig could climb a tree. Instead of wasting time, focus your attention on Nuan Wei—that’s the real promising student, just as excellent as Gu Jiayan!" Li Junmei's words were biting and sour, grating on the ears of everyone around.
Nuan Cha's speech was cut off, and she frowned in annoyance. Why did Li Junmei always have to butt in no matter what was being said?
"Teacher, don’t you see Teacher Shen is talking to me?" Nuan Cha retorted without a hint of politeness.
Li Junmei had never encountered such an audacious student at school. She slapped the desk and glared at Shen Jie. "Teacher Shen, I'm advising you out of goodwill. Are you just going to let this uncultured student act so brazenly?"
Ever since yesterday’s incident, Shen Jie’s respect for Li Junmei had vanished completely. He kept up a veneer of politeness. "Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to give her a proper lesson. If you’re not busy, perhaps you could focus on your own work?"
With such a clear tone of annoyance at her meddling, Li Junmei would have to be deaf not to catch it after all these years. She sneered, her eyes full of mockery. As she turned away, she muttered under her breath, "Neither of them knows what's good for them..."
Seeing Li Junmei walk away, Shen Jie spoke sternly, "I’m not blaming you, Nuan Cha, but you should still show respect to your teachers. No matter their manners or professionalism, you must always have a generous heart, understand?"
On the surface, it was a rebuke for Nuan Cha, but beneath it, he was actually criticizing Li Junmei for her lack of manners and professionalism.
The teachers nearby, watching the spectacle, all lowered their heads, stifling laughter.
Li Junmei, just turned away, so angry her chest ached: "..."

Time slipped by, and soon it was the end of the school day.
Before leaving, Xu Jie cast a meaningful glance at Nuan Cha, then walked over to Nuan Wei and whispered, "When your sister comes back, take her up to the roof."
Nuan Wei was stunned, then after two seconds, nodded quietly.
Nuan Cha hadn’t been at her seat during the last self-study period. Nuan Wei sat waiting for her for half an hour.
Half an hour later, Nuan Cha ambled into the classroom. She had come to retrieve her backpack.
As soon as she entered, Nuan Wei stood up abruptly. "Cha Cha, let's go together."
Nuan Cha’s eyes were cool and indifferent. Without a word, she walked straight to her seat, pulled her backpack from the drawer, and headed for the door.
Nuan Wei hurried to keep up. "Cha Cha, could you come with me to the roof for a moment—"
But before she could finish, as she chased after Nuan Cha out of the classroom, she saw, lining the corridor behind her, two neat rows of men in black suits.
