Chapter 37: Get Lost Already~
Ruan Cha looked up, the light above casting its glow onto his face. His expression was calm, devoid of emotion, the shadow falling deep and dark beside his straight nose. The servants who had cleaned the apartment had already retired for the night; in this vast, two-storied house, only Ruan Cha and Gu Zhenzhi remained. Considering this, Ruan Cha’s clear eyes rolled restlessly.
Late at night, a man and a woman alone together.
Awaken, the hour of the hunt—
Ruan Cha’s face remained impassive as she walked to Gu Zhenzhi’s side. Suddenly, just as they were about to pass each other, she spun around, her foot slipped, and she tumbled uncontrollably toward Gu Zhenzhi!
“Ah!”
She cried out, and in the next moment, instead of the romantic embrace she had been waiting for, she felt her throat tighten.
With her collar caught from behind, Ruan Cha took a full three seconds to recover her senses. She struggled twice, then heard Gu Zhenzhi’s lazy, deep voice from above, “Watch where you’re going.”
Ruan Cha: “…”
Love is like a roller coaster; heartbreak comes in an instant.
After regaining her balance, Ruan Cha gave Gu Zhenzhi an awkward smile. “I’m a bit thirsty, hhh…”
With that, she walked downstairs. Originally intending to return to her room, Ruan Cha reconsidered. She settled onto the sofa in the living room, watching as Gu Zhenzhi strode from the living room to the study on his long, straight legs.
The study was semi-open, without a door.
Gu Zhenzhi sat at his desk, opened his laptop, his every move fixed on the screen, all falling within Ruan Cha’s gaze.
Immersed in the allure before her, and tempted to indulge further, Ruan Cha was startled by the sudden ringing of her phone. She glanced down and saw the name S on the screen.
She answered, “If you’ve got something to say, say it quickly!”
S, hearing her tone, immediately sensed their boss was in a bad mood. He hesitated for a few seconds. “Boss, you asked me to keep an eye on the company managed by Ruan Yingzhe. Recently, he approached our company, hoping to discuss a collaboration on the Q7 Research Institute’s wave-based lie detector.”
“He wants the commission for manufacturing?” Ruan Cha’s lips curled in a mocking smile.
“Yes, but his company is too small and doesn’t meet our standards.”
“Tell him to get lost!” Just the thought of Ruan Yingzhe frustrated her. As she finished speaking, she noticed Gu Zhenzhi’s gaze from across the room and immediately toned down her ferocity, transforming into a docile demeanor. “Go away, please~”
Gu Zhenzhi: “…”
Compared to the unwavering calm inside the study, S on the other end of the phone was barely holding back a twitch at the corner of his mouth.
He looked as though he questioned his very existence. “Boss, what did you just say?”
Ruan Cha turned away, her back to Gu Zhenzhi. “Nothing.”
S snapped out of his shock. “So, should we reject him outright?”
Ruan Cha’s slender, pale fingers tapped lightly on her knee; she hesitated for a few seconds, then parted her delicate lips. “No, keep him hanging. Tell him we’re considering entrusting his company with production, but we haven’t made a final decision yet.”
“Yes.”
Ruan Cha waited for Gu Zhenzhi in the living room for over half an hour. He showed no signs of resting, busy with his work.
Ruan Cha recalled the descriptions of Gu Zhenzhi in the novel: driven by vengeance, ruthless, forcing himself to grow stronger at any cost.
After some thought, she brewed a cup of coffee, carried it to the study, and gently tapped the wall beside her, signaling her approach.
Gu Zhenzhi didn’t look up. “I don’t drink coffee.”
Ruan Cha didn’t hesitate. “How about tea? I can make tea! Or juice—even the juice I make tastes great!”
