Ruan Cha automatically tuned everything out.

After she and the sweet girl sat down together, the sweet girl accepted Ruan Cha’s snacks and, in turn, offered her own. “Hi, my name is Shen Soso. Yesterday you said your name was Ruan Cha—can I call you Chacha?”

“Of course you can.” Ruan Cha gazed blissfully at the sweet girl… Shen Soso’s adorable dimples had already conquered her heart.

“Ruan Cha, is it? I heard you’re jealous of Weiwei and even mocked her at the welcome banquet?”

A boy, nonchalant and full of swagger, got up from his seat and strode over to the aisle beside Ruan Cha, his tone menacing.

At the sound of his voice, Ruan Cha gently rolled her neck, then glanced back with cool, indifferent eyes. “Who is Weiwei?”

“Don’t play dumb. The whole school knows about you now—the illegitimate girl who tried to go after Weiwei! Let me warn you, Weiwei is my future girlfriend. If you dare touch her, you won’t get away with it, believe me!”

With his own self-introduction, a vague memory surfaced in Ruan Cha’s mind.

He must be surnamed Xu, besotted with Ruan Wei, always at her beck and call—a terminally dramatic, adolescent boy.

He knew some impressive people outside of school, which made him insufferably arrogant on campus.

“Stay away from me,” Ruan Cha replied, barely lifting her eyelids, clearly uninterested in giving him another glance.

“Oh, got quite the temper, huh?” Xu Jie’s face darkened at Ruan Cha’s show of defiance. “Take a look at yourself. What right do you have to be jealous of Weiwei? An illegitimate child is just that—someone who can’t see the light of day. If it weren’t for Weiwei’s mother’s generosity, you’d be nothing!”

The more he spoke, the louder he became. “When your mother crawled into another woman’s husband’s bed all those years ago, did she ever consider what kind of life her daughter would have? Like mother, like daughter—the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!”

Ruan Cha listened quietly, her beautiful eyes calm and unruffled.

When Xu Jie finally stopped, she slowly turned her gaze to him. Her ink-dark pupils were chilling as they fixed on him. “Are you finished?”

Something about her stare sent a shiver down Xu Jie’s spine, but she was just a frail girl—he didn’t take her seriously at all. With a sneer, he added, “What, your mother can do it but can’t face it? She’s a whore and you want us to put her on a pedestal?”

As he finished, several boys in the class burst into laughter.

Xu Jie’s vanity swelled with satisfaction. He reached out, intending to push Ruan Cha’s shoulder down.

But in the next instant, his wrist was gripped in a fierce vise.

Bang!

The violent sound and the lightning-fast scene left the entire class stunned.

When they snapped out of their shock, they saw Xu Jie, towering at over six feet, pinned to the floor by Ruan Cha, who was petite and slender, barely over five feet tall.

The girl’s gaze was icy and suffocating.

She bent down, her eyes fixed coldly on Xu Jie’s face. “You like talking about other people’s mothers so much, don’t you?”

Her voice was glacial. One foot pressed down on Xu Jie’s stomach, the other grinding mercilessly into the back of his hand.

Xu Jie’s face twisted in pain, his fingers nearly crushed, the faint crack of bones breaking audible.

“Chacha, what are you doing?!” Ruan Wei rushed in from outside the classroom at that moment, catching sight of Xu Jie pinned beneath Ruan Cha’s foot.

She hurried forward in a panic. “Chacha, even if you’re angry at your sister, you can’t take it out on your classmates. If you’re upset, if you blame me, you can hit me, yell at me, just don’t…”
