Chapter 37: The Woman in Red
Zhao Ziyun quickly sent Jiang Hao the Zhao family’s address and repeatedly urged him to cure his father Zhao Shibo’s illness, reminding him again and again.
After waking up, Jiang Hao tidied himself and set off toward the Zhao residence.
The Zhao family compound was located near the city center. While the land here was not as expensive as the very heart of the city, it was still quite valuable—certainly far pricier than the outskirts. The compound occupied a sizeable area in this prime location, a testament to the Zhao family’s wealth.
Following the address sent by Zhao Ziyun, Jiang Hao finally arrived at the gates of the Zhao family compound.
Just as he was about to park, a red Bentley sped over, dangerously close to his Bugatti Veyron—missing it by barely ten centimeters. Jiang Hao was annoyed; the owner of the Bentley drove recklessly. Was this how one ought to drive?
He had barely stepped out of his car when he saw a woman with striking makeup and a red dress emerge from the Bentley.
The woman in red immediately pointed at Jiang Hao’s nose and scolded, “Do you even know how to drive? You nearly crashed! If you hit my car, could you afford to pay for it?”
“That’s what I should be saying to you. My car—could you even afford the compensation?” Jiang Hao responded coldly.
“Aren’t you full of yourself! That broken car of yours—what could I possibly not afford—”
Before she could finish, she stopped abruptly, her expression turning awkward.
She had seen Jiang Hao’s car and the dazzling emblem of the Bugatti Veyron.
“A Bugatti Veyron… How can you afford such an expensive car? Did you rent it?” the woman in red asked, suspicion in her eyes.
Jiang Hao turned away, ignoring her.
He had no interest in arguing with such an idiotic woman.
But just as Jiang Hao walked to the entrance of the Zhao compound, about to enter, the woman suddenly shouted, “Stop!”
Jiang Hao paused impatiently, turning to her. “Is there anything else you want? If it’s not important, don’t bother me—I have business to attend to.”
“Oh, you have business, do you?” The woman in red strode arrogantly up to him, then looked him over with disdain.
“Look at your clothes—from head to toe, they can’t be worth more than five hundred yuan, can they? And you’re renting a luxury car to pretend to be rich? Aren’t you ashamed?” She laughed derisively.
Jiang Hao’s brow furrowed sharply.
This woman was truly hateful.
Whether his car was rented or not, what did that matter to her? Whether his clothes were designer or from a street stall, what concern was it of hers? She was meddling far too much!
Jiang Hao ignored her further and headed into the compound, but the woman called out arrogantly, “Stop! Did I give you permission to leave?”
She quickened her pace, catching up and blocking his path.
“What exactly do you want?” Jiang Hao asked, his patience fraying.
“I should be asking what you want! Speak—why are you here at the Zhao residence?” Her tone was as haughty as could be.
Yet her words caught Jiang Hao’s attention.
Their Zhao family?
Could it be that this woman was a member of the Zhao family?
But among the younger generation, Zhao Ziyun was supposed to be the only one. Yesterday, at the Zhao Real Estate Group’s sales center, Zhao Ziyun’s beautiful secretary had repeatedly said he was the sole heir.
So who was this woman in red, and where had she come from?
Jiang Hao was about to speak, but she cut him off.
“Looking at you, you’re probably here to curry favor with Madam Zhao, or to ask Zhao Ziyun for help, right?”
“You’re mistaken,” Jiang Hao replied coldly.
She snorted, her voice dripping with contempt. “Mistaken? Don’t pretend! I’ve seen plenty of people like you. Let me tell you, in Maple Leaf City, countless people come to the Zhao family every day, trying to get a little advantage. Madam Zhao and Ziyun are sick of you leeches! I order you to leave now—the Zhao family is not accepting guests today!”
Hearing this, Jiang Hao couldn’t help but chuckle in irritation.
He had come at Zhao Ziyun’s invitation, after many requests, to treat the family patriarch Zhao Shibo’s illness.
Yet this woman in red assumed he was here to flatter the Zhao family, to ingratiate himself—a laughable misunderstanding!
Why were women like her so confident, so self-important?
Wasn’t this the kind of person the term “average woman” described?
“If I said I was here to treat Zhao Shibo, the family patriarch’s illness?” Jiang Hao replied, keeping his composure.
At his words, the woman burst into raucous laughter, nearly doubling over and snorting.
It took her a while to calm down. She looked at Jiang Hao with mocking amusement.
“To treat Uncle Zhao? You think you’re qualified? Look at yourself—do you look anything like a doctor? If you said you were here to beg for food, I might believe you. As for treating illness, forget it!”
With that, she shouted into the courtyard, “Da Huang! Da Kui! Get out here and throw this beggar out!”
At her command, two burly men in black suits rushed out from the compound, faces fierce, stopping before Jiang Hao.
Any ordinary person would have been terrified at the sight of these two muscle-bound men.
But Jiang Hao was no ordinary man.
He stood calmly, his expression unchanged, as if nothing in the world could surprise or shock him.
“I’ll say it one last time: leave here and stop bothering us! Otherwise, I’ll have them deal with you!” the woman in red commanded icily.
One bodyguard echoed, “Didn’t you hear our lady? Get lost!”
“If you don’t leave, I’ll smash you!” the other growled, rolling up his sleeves to reveal his powerful biceps.
Jiang Hao’s competitive spirit was instantly awakened.
He glanced coolly at the two bodyguards, then spoke slowly to the woman in red, “What if I refuse to leave?”
“You’re asking for it! Da Huang, Da Kui, take care of him!”
At her words, the two men grabbed Jiang Hao’s shoulders and shoved him forcefully.
Yet Jiang Hao stood unmoved, not budging an inch.
Their pride wounded, they tried together to lift Jiang Hao by his arms and carry him out.
But his feet seemed rooted to the earth, firmly planted, and no matter how hard they tried, they couldn’t move him the slightest bit.
