Chapter 71: Fury for a Beauty, or Arrogance?
Xue Wuwei led Gu Feng and his companions quickly toward the Xue family residence. Many people along the way watched curiously, but none dared to whisper or point fingers—after all, the Xue family held absolute authority in Upper Central City.
Gu Yan still wore her veil.
Xue Wen and Xue Ziyan were both extremely nervous; after all, they were about to face the entire Xue family, and it was impossible not to feel anxious.
Gu Feng, on the other hand, appeared utterly at ease, looking around as if fearless of heaven or earth.
As they neared the Xue residence, Xue Wuwei’s second younger brother, who was also Xue Ziyan’s second brother, came hurrying over. He glanced at Xue Wen and Xue Ziyan and said to Xue Wuwei, “Big Brother, let’s hurry back. The Feng family are even more difficult to please than our ancestors!”
After speaking, Xue Wusheng looked at Xue Wuwei, expecting his elder brother to be flustered or even angry. To his surprise, Xue Wuwei remained calm.
Puzzled, Xue Wusheng asked, “Big Brother, what’s going on with you…?”
Xue Wuwei glanced at Gu Feng, then said to Xue Wusheng, “Second Brother, when it comes to Xue Wen, as her father I cannot decide for her, nor can the Xue family. This young… friend is the son-in-law Xue Wen brought back. Let them work things out themselves.”
He had wanted to say “young man,” but considering his daughter’s relationship with Gu Feng, he altered his words. He had yet to learn of the connection between Gu Feng and his sister; otherwise…
Xue Wusheng studied Gu Feng. No matter how he looked, Gu Feng seemed like an ordinary youth. He wanted to reach out and feel his brother’s forehead to see if he was feverish. Still, as the head of the family, Big Brother bore the weight of everything, so Xue Wusheng said nothing more. In the end, even if the sky fell, his brother would hold it up.
They soon entered the Xue residence, heading straight for the reception hall.
From a distance, they could already hear complaints and unpleasant words echoing from within the hall.
At the entrance, Xue Wuwei stopped, stepped aside, and looked at Gu Feng.
Gu Feng was unconcerned, striding confidently into the hall.
As someone entered, all eyes turned to the doorway.
The Feng family assumed it was Xue Wuwei and prepared to scold him. Realizing it was a young man, they hesitated—who was this youth?
Gu Feng entered the hall, glanced at the main seats filled with people, and immediately frowned. Turning to Xue Wuwei, who followed behind, he asked, “Are those seated in the place of honor people or ghosts?”
Xue Wuwei looked at the Feng family members seated at the head and replied with a wry smile, “They are the Feng family from White Spirit City and guests of our Xue family.”
Gu Feng immediately swore, “Guests? Damn it, aren’t guests supposed to sit below? Letting them take the side seats is already giving them face, but these bastards have occupied every seat of honor. And even now, seeing me arrive, they don’t give way—truly ill-mannered and lacking any upbringing!”
The Xue family was stunned by Gu Feng’s outburst.
None of them knew who Gu Feng was; they were dying of curiosity—who was this man, so brash and arrogant?
The Feng family was dumbstruck by Gu Feng’s tirade for a long moment. Feng Yulong, the third young master of the Feng family and the one proposing marriage this time, finally reacted. Frowning at the audacious Gu Feng, he demanded, “Who are you?”
Feng Yulong, though angry, restrained himself, preferring to clarify the youth’s identity before losing his temper.
Gu Feng, intent on provoking them, looked at Feng Yulong with disdain and spat, “Who am I? Go ask your mother!”
“Bold words! You’re courting death,” Feng Yulong hadn’t even responded before his second aunt, Feng Bilian, unleashed a terrifying pressure upon Gu Feng, intent on forcing him to kneel.
Alas, though her aura was formidable, Gu Feng was more than a match for it and paid her no heed at all.
Everyone present was shocked by this display.
Xue Wuwei, however, let out a deep sigh of relief—his suspicions had been correct: Gu Feng was definitely no ordinary man, to casually ignore the pressure of a fifth-level Spiritualist like Feng Bilian.
In truth, there were two ways to ignore someone’s oppressive aura: first, by possessing overwhelming strength; second, by owning a treasure capable of resisting such pressure. Either way, it signified that this was no simple person.
Feng Yulan was also startled and thought to herself, “No wonder he’s so arrogant—he has nothing to fear.”
She turned to Xue Wuwei and said, “Xue Wuwei, who is this? Why did you bring him to insult us?”
Xue Wuwei was alarmed and hurried to explain, “Elder Bilian, you misunderstand. I just met this young man today—he returned with my daughter, claiming to be her betrothed. As you’ve seen, he’s by no means ordinary, and when it comes to Xue Wen, I can no longer intervene.”
With Xue Wuwei making himself so clear, the Feng family understood at last.
Feng Bilian rose, approaching Gu Feng. She didn’t believe in his strength—he was far too young. She assumed he must possess some artifact to resist her aura. Of course, she was also deeply curious about his identity.
She came to within two steps of Gu Feng, scrutinizing him intently. “Who are you?” she asked, staring into his eyes, determined not to miss a single flicker.
Gu Feng caught the scent of her perfume and smiled faintly, stepping closer until they were less than thirty centimeters apart.
Feng Bilian’s body trembled—she nearly stepped back, only steadying herself with a deep breath.
Having been intimate with Xue Ziyan, Gu Feng no longer felt awkward around older women. Studying Feng Bilian at close range, he observed that she was about the same age as Xue Ziyan, perhaps even fairer-skinned and more beautiful.
Unable to withstand Gu Feng’s scrutiny, Feng Bilian finally retreated two steps and glared at him. “What do you want?”
Gu Feng chuckled softly. “What are you afraid of? Do you think I might eat you?”
Feng Yulong watched as his second aunt locked eyes with Gu Feng and found the whole scene unsettling. It felt as if Second Aunt and Second Uncle were staring each other down—but they were husband and wife! What was this with Second Aunt and this boy? Why did it feel so strange?
Feng Yulong strode over to Gu Feng and declared haughtily, “Are you trying to take Xue Wen from me?”
Gu Feng didn’t even spare him a glance. Instead, he walked toward Feng Bilian and said, “Why don’t we become friends?”
Upon hearing this, Xue Wen, Gu Yan, and Xue Ziyan all frowned.
Feng Bilian’s brow also furrowed, and she snapped, “Are you insane?”
Gu Feng grinned. “If I am, do you have a cure?”
Furious, Feng Bilian shouted, “Who exactly are you? If you keep spouting nonsense, I won’t be polite!”
Unable to fathom Gu Feng’s true identity, Feng Bilian dared not act rashly.
Gu Feng’s expression changed, and he cursed, “Damn it! You have a man, and if I tease you, you get upset. Yet Xue Wen is my woman, and your nephew comes here to propose marriage? What’s the meaning of that?”
The Xue family suddenly understood—so Gu Feng’s audacity stemmed from this!
Xue Wen, realizing the truth, was deeply moved.
Gu Feng was angry on her behalf!
Despite the power of the Feng family, he had stood up for her without hesitation. Such a man was worth following.
Feng Bilian was stunned by his outburst.
Feng Yulong, incensed at being ignored by Gu Feng, shouted in rage, “Ah! I challenge you to a duel!”
