Chapter 104: The Second Guild Skill
When the boss’s health dropped to twenty million, it went berserk, and its Triple-Blade style and Earthshatter Slash became far more frequent.
Even with no melee players nearby, the boss would still unleash Earthshatter Slash.
Fortunately, Baby Panda was tough enough to hold the line.
As for Fengyun One Blade and the others, after reviving who knew how many times, they had stopped rushing in to hack at the boss nonstop.
They would only step up after the boss finished Earthshatter Slash, land a few blows, then fall back and wait at the side for the next ultimate before moving in again.
It was not that they were afraid to die; it was simply unnecessary. Once the boss entered berserk, it kept using skills far too often.
Standing there and swinging away would probably only allow a few hits anyway. Better to make use of the gaps between skill casts and squeeze out some damage.
No matter how often the boss fired its ultimate, it could not possibly cast them back-to-back. There had to be some cooldown.
Watching the boss’s health keep dropping, nearing the point of collapse, while the monster siege event still had more than ten minutes left, everyone finally let out a breath.
With only fifty of them, bringing down an event boss with one hundred million health within an hour was no small feat.
There could not be any accidents now. Luckily it was a training dummy of a boss; as long as they could survive its attacks, the rest came down to damage output.
If Zhang Shan’s Baby Panda had not been strengthened by the Heart of Nature and had not gained twice its health, they really might have thrown the fight.
Even if Fengyun Little Secretary had taken the tank role, he would not have been able to endure it. A boss that kept using ultimates was simply too monstrous.
“Think this boss will drop us some good gear?” one of them asked.
“Earthshatter Slash skill.”
“Damn, you’re still thinking about that? Do you even have skill points to learn a new skill?”
“Skill points can be farmed slowly later. Good skill books are rare.”
“You poor naive child.”
“Stop dreaming. If it drops two extra red items, we should be grinning in our sleep.”
“Red gear should be guaranteed, right? At least one piece, and no more than three.”
Zhang Shan did not seem to have much of a need either. A boss dropping one or two pieces of red gear was about normal.
And there might not even be any for agility classes. Even if there were, they would still have to roll for them, and with so many people rolling, how could it be easy to win?
As for skill books, he did not need one for the moment either. His Frenzy skill still needed five more skill points before it could be maxed out.
Even if they gave him a skill book, he would not have the skill points to use it.
Things like this could not be rushed. They had to be worked on slowly.
If he wanted equipment, then in a few days, once Old Wu’s level had been raised, the two of them could go hunt some bosses and see if they could farm any gear.
To Zhang Shan, bosses below orange rarity were nothing but trash. With Old Wu along, the two of them could deal with them easily.
And in the future, once Old Wu became stronger, the two of them might even be able to handle red bosses.
So he was not in a hurry at all. He would treat boss fights as a way to gain some experience, as long as he could hold onto first place on the leaderboard.
The reward for the top spot was a five-star chest. Nothing could be more practical.
“Come on, the boss’s health bar is empty.”
Zhang Shan controlled Baby Panda to unleash a seven-hit combo, yet still failed to finish the boss off.
A little awkward.
But there was nothing to be done. Even when the boss’s health bar looked empty, it might have only a few hundred health left, or it might still have over a million.
That last sliver of health gave no clue at all. It was pure luck.
Everyone attacked again, and at last they smashed the Demon Vanguard to the ground.
System announcement: Congratulations to Wind and Cloud Heaven, Six-Trunk Bodhisattva, Wind and Cloud Cannon, and others for achieving the first kill of the Demon Vanguard.
Reward: Skill Points +1, Merit +100.
“Damn, so killing event bosses can put you on the announcement too. Why didn’t it happen last time?”
“Maybe the requirement for making the announcement is higher for event bosses. Last time it was an orange boss, this time it’s a red one, so that’s why we got the announcement.”
“Who cares? We got a free skill point. Feels great.”
“Haha, we actually brought down a boss with a hundred million health. I still can’t believe it.”
“Yeah, we’re only in the twenties level-wise, and we’ve already killed a boss with over a hundred million health. That’s insane.”
“Look at the city-defense contribution leaderboard. The top three are all ours. Insane.”
After the vanguard was destroyed, Zhang Shan firmly held first place on the city-defense contribution leaderboard, more than three times the score of second place, Wind and Cloud Cannon.
Wind and Cloud Heaven was in third place. As for everyone else, none of them made the top ten.
“Speaking of which, you other ranged players are a bit lacking, aren’t you? Same boss, yet none of you can even make the top ten.”
Fengyun One Blade teased them.
“And you did?”
“I had no way to output damage. I’d go up and die. Otherwise I’d definitely be in the top ten.”
“Anyone can boast.”
“Stop talking nonsense and open the loot. After that, we can still kill another boss.”
Indeed, with ten minutes left before the event ended, if they moved quickly, taking down an orange boss would be no problem.
A free boss not to be killed was simply against all reason.
Normally they could not even find one if they wanted to.
“Yes, hurry up and open the loot. Once that’s done, we’ll move on to the next boss.”
Wind and Cloud Heaven displayed the full loot.
Two red items, two orange items, one material, and one skill book. The drop was fairly ordinary, but considering they had gotten the first kill...
It was actually rather poor.
“Damn, what’s that skill book?”
Hm? Could they really have dropped Earthshatter Slash? No way.
“Stop yelling for nothing. I thought it was Earthshatter Slash.”
Fengyun One Blade said unhappily.
“What Earthshatter Slash? This is a guild skill. Our guild is level two now, so we can learn one more guild skill.”
Upon hearing that it was a guild skill, Zhang Shan carefully read the skill book description.
Mutual Aid, guild skill: when guild members are in a party together, experience gained increases by ten percent.
For each additional guild member in the party, experience gained increases by five percent, up to a maximum increase of twenty percent.
In other words, when guild members party up to grind monsters, two people together gain ten percent more experience.
Three people gain fifteen percent, and four people gain twenty percent.
Four people is the best setup. More than that, and the bonus does not increase further.
This guild skill was excellent. At last, New World had a system that encouraged party leveling.
“Damn, now leveling finally has some hope.”
“Yeah. If you party with four people, it’s like gaining three extra hours of experience in a full day. Great skill.”
Wind and Cloud Heaven assigned the Mutual Aid skill book to himself, then used it immediately. Soon, everyone else had a new skill as well.
Only the guild leader could use guild skill books.
At each guild level, one guild skill could be learned without consuming skill points. As long as the guild’s level was high enough, that was all that mattered.
“Let’s roll for the gear.”
Two red items: a battle blade for a guardian warrior, and an intelligence-type robe.
The orange gear was all strength-based equipment: a bracer and a helmet.
