Chapter Sixty-Six: Hunting the Boss Across Cities
After dealing damage to the boss, Zhang Shan quickly checked its attributes.
Wraith Commander (Orange): Level 25, Health 1 million, Attack 2000, Skill 1: Soul Orb, Skill 2: Magic Drain, Skill 3: Magic Resistance (Passive).
Soul Orb: The Wraith Commander transforms its soul into an orb to attack its target, increasing damage by fifty percent.
Magic Drain: Absorbs the target’s magic. When the target’s magic is depleted, it absorbs health instead, draining one thousand per second for five seconds.
Magic Resistance (Passive): Enhances resistance to magic, reducing magical damage effects.
This Wraith Commander wasn’t particularly strong, its skills were average; it just had a lot of health—a level twenty-five orange boss.
Its health matched that of the level twenty red boss, the Demon Tribe Priest—both stood at one million.
He should be able to handle it; it was worth a try.
Seeing Zhang Shan already attacking the boss, Heart Moves With Me joined in.
The boss’s attack was two thousand, and with skill damage, each strike should deal around three thousand.
But Panda Baby had high defense, plus passive skills that reduced damage, so the actual damage dealt was just over a thousand.
Magic-type bosses attacked slowly. With Panda Baby’s health, it should withstand nearly a minute.
Within that minute, Zhang Shan, Heart Moves With Me, and Panda Baby could deal at least three hundred thousand damage.
In theory, if Panda Baby tanked three times, they could finish off the boss.
“Your pet is impressive—it can withstand an orange boss,” Heart Moves With Me remarked.
“It’s because this boss is a bit weak. Stronger orange bosses wouldn’t be so easy. The main issue is the lack of healing support.”
“That’s true, Brother Six Tubes. If you brought a support, you two could easily defeat bosses below orange.”
“More or less. Orange bosses aren’t much; red bosses are truly tough. You need a whole group, and even then it’s not a guarantee.”
“Professions with pets are awesome—not only is farming easier, you can solo small bosses. If I’d known, I would’ve played hunter.”
Seeing how easy it was to fight the boss, Heart Moves With Me relaxed; he’d been worried about dying and losing a level, which would endanger his spot as second on the leaderboard.
Under their fierce assault, the boss’s health rapidly decreased, and Panda Baby was almost out of health.
“Brother Heart, pay attention. When my pet falls, hold the boss for a moment while I summon it again.”
“But I don’t have stun skills or any aggro skills. I might not be able to keep the boss occupied.”
Damn, he hadn’t considered that. The magic swordsman wasn’t like other strength classes.
Those usually had aggro skills, like Charge.
He was a magic swordsman and didn’t have any—an oversight.
“I’ll stop attacking, recall Panda Baby. If I don’t attack, the boss’s aggro should transfer to you. Try to hold it, and I’ll feed Panda Baby to restore its health.”
Zhang Shan stopped attacking and recalled Panda Baby.
The boss switched to attacking Heart Moves With Me.
Zhang Shan quickly summoned Panda Baby and began feeding it.
Feeding couldn’t be rushed; while Panda Baby rested, it would take about ten seconds to fully restore its health.
Heart Moves With Me could hardly hold out that long, so Zhang Shan had to send Panda Baby back in before its health was fully restored.
Heart Moves With Me retreated, meditating and taking potions to recover.
“I can’t even compare with a pet. Magic swordsman is really too weak.”
Zhang Shan’s Panda Baby could tank the boss for about a minute, while Heart Moves With Me couldn’t last ten seconds.
The disparity was huge, leaving him frustrated—he couldn’t even match a pet.
“Not really. Magic swordsman has high damage output. Once you have more skills, it’s almost like a mage. With all those skills, your output is stronger than many classes.”
“That may be so, but skill books are hard to find, and skill points are even harder. To reach the effect you’re talking about, who knows how long it’ll take.”
“No rush, you’ll get stronger eventually.”
Truth be told, magic swordsman was currently the weakest class. Aside from efficient monster farming, everything else was abysmal. In combat, it lacked engagement skills and could only run up and hack at enemies.
Like a fool, getting kited by others.
When fighting bosses, the sense of presence was weak—just providing some damage output and nothing more.
For the rest of the fight, Panda Baby and Heart Moves With Me took turns tanking, while the boss’s health gradually dropped to just over twenty percent—it was about to go berserk.
“I’ll recall Panda Baby and prepare for the boss’s berserk phase. After it goes berserk, you won’t be able to hold out; we’ll have to rely on Panda Baby. Let me restore its health.”
“Alright, I’ll try to buy some time.”
Once Panda Baby’s health was full again, Zhang Shan took over from Heart Moves With Me, tanking the boss’s damage.
Soon, the boss’s health dropped below twenty percent, and it went berserk. Its attacks became fiercer, striking Panda Baby for much higher damage.
Panda Baby would probably fall in about twenty seconds.
“Brother Six Tubes, this won’t work. After the boss goes berserk, your pet can’t hold out long, and I can’t tank it either.”
“No worries—just focus on output. You won’t need to tank anymore.”
Zhang Shan activated his Berserk skill. At level nine, Berserk increased attack and attack speed by eighteen percent.
His output surged, quickly reducing the boss’s health to ten percent, and Panda Baby was nearly out of health.
From here, Zhang Shan and Heart Moves With Me had to finish the fight themselves. When Panda Baby fell, its happiness dropped.
After being summoned again, it needed to be fed to restore happiness before continuing to help its master fight.
With the boss’s health so low, Zhang Shan obviously didn’t have time to feed Panda Baby, so he had to tank himself.
“When Panda Baby falls, keep attacking. I’ll hold the boss’s aggro.”
“Can you handle it? The boss still has quite a bit of health—it’ll take at least twenty seconds to finish. Can you survive that long?”
Heart Moves With Me was skeptical. Zhang Shan was just a fragile hunter; no matter how good his gear, he couldn’t possibly withstand the boss’s damage.
“It’s fine—I’m not afraid of dying. I have a Rebirth skill; after death, I revive in ten seconds.”
“How does such a skill exist? Where did you get the skill book?”
“It’s a talent, not a skill book.”
“Amazing.”
“If I go down, just kite the boss for ten seconds.”
“Alright, that’s doable. The boss runs faster than me, but it won’t hit me much in ten seconds.”
Soon Panda Baby fell, and the boss charged straight at Zhang Shan, its fierce attacks landing on him.
Zhang Shan paid no mind, focusing solely on damage output. He gave it his all—after all, he had Rebirth and wasn’t afraid of dying.
During the final barrage, Zhang Shan landed a critical hit and a Holy Strike.
He quickly brought the boss’s health to zero, attacking a few more times as it collapsed.
He hadn’t even needed Rebirth—the boss was defeated outright.
