Chapter 82: The Chase
The Dragon King of the East Sea summoned everyone outside Wild Wolf Slope inside. At first, Zhang Shan wasn't aware of this, but One Blade Storm called out:
"Six-Barrel Bro, all the people from the Conquerors of the Four Seas have gone in. How's your situation? Do you want our people to go in too?"
"No need for now. I'm just taking them for a stroll. How's your dungeon run going?"
"We're fighting the boss. The boss in hard mode is insane—ten million health points, ten times the normal mode, and its attack power is also higher."
"That's tough. With so much health, won't it take forever to fight? The boss will probably use its ultimate move several times."
"Yeah, it's already used its ultimate once. Over twenty people have fallen, and only half are left fighting."
"That'll slow things down even more?"
"No choice. As long as the tank and supports are alive, we'll just grind it out slowly."
"Alright, you guys keep at it. I'll wait until my skills' cooldowns are up, then I'll take another shot at the Conquerors."
"You actually fought them once?"
"No, not really. At the start, they threw themselves at me, hoping I'd get marked as a red name. I took out thirty or so, then knocked down the Dragon King once. Didn't get any more chances after that."
"Damn, you knocked down the Dragon King?"
"Yeah, he was the fastest, got separated from the others. If I didn't teach him a lesson, he'd keep thinking he was invincible."
"Impressive."
"I even got his axe as loot—it's red, haha."
"What luck, save it for me. I'll buy it at market price."
"You'd better buy something else at the auction house. I want to make a statement with this axe, deepen the Dragon King's memory."
"What statement?"
"I'm going to post it on the world channel. Let everyone admire the grand style of the Dragon King, haha."
"Shameless, but I like it, haha."
"No more chit-chat. Focus on the boss fight. Have everyone else delay entering Wild Wolf Slope, or they'll get blocked and slaughtered by the Conquerors at the entrance."
"Got it."
After ending the call, Zhang Shan checked the map for the pursuers behind him—they were relentless. Over a hundred people were still chasing him, while the others seemed either blocked by wild wolves or preparing to intercept him elsewhere.
Anyway, he couldn't see them now. With everyone outside now inside too, five or six hundred could form a wide blockade. He couldn't stay passive forever, or he might really get wiped out.
"Six-Barrel Buddha, don't run if you've got guts. Let's duel one-on-one."
Only a fool wouldn't run, and a duel? As if he'd believe that—they'd probably all gang up on him. Zhang Shan ignored them and kept running. Once his berserk skill cooled down, they'd be in for a surprise.
But he couldn't let them have it easy now. He needed to stir things up, spark some excitement. He acted on the idea immediately.
Zhang Shan showcased the Dragon King's axe on the world channel and announced: "Freshly dropped red axe, Dragon King craftsmanship guarantees quality. If you're interested, prepare your money. Once my red name status is cleared, I'll list it in the city auction house."
Seeing Zhang Shan flaunt his weapon on the world channel, the Dragon King nearly exploded with rage. It was a slap in the face, and he wished he could hack Zhang Shan to pieces. But for now, he could only urge everyone to chase harder, refusing to let Zhang Shan catch his breath.
Compared to the furious rage of the Conquerors of the Four Seas, the spectators on the world channel were thoroughly entertained. People always enjoy seeing others suffer, especially when the powerful Dragon King and his crew had harmed many others' interests. Everyone was eager for their downfall.
"This axe is awesome, which Dragon King dropped it? The Conquerors have four Dragon Kings."
"Isn't it obvious? Only the East Sea Dragon King is a berserker. It must be his drop. Artifact master, impressive."
"Truly impressive—snatched the general's head in the midst of thousands?"
"Is Six-Barrel Buddha just bragging? Did the East Sea Dragon King really drop it? They've got hundreds of people; how could their leader get killed?"
"It's easy to check—Conquerors, step forward. Did your boss really fall?"
"Don't ask. If he hadn't, he'd have come out and yelled already."
"Exactly. Probably the Dragon King got cocky, tried to duel the artifact master, got schooled, and tossed his weapon in surrender, haha."
"Damn, that's a powerful explanation. Tossing his weapon in surrender—hilarious."
"Can't let this axe slip by. I'm going to prepare some money for the auction. With stats this good, it's unmissable—not to mention its high collectible value."
"Don't fight over it. This axe is mine."
"Why should I give it to you? Let's see who wins it."
"Why the rush? The axe isn't even listed yet. Maybe Six-Barrel Buddha will drop another soon."
"True. What's the battle status now?"
"Where's the live feed from Dangyang City?"
"This is Dangyang City—we can't view the battle anymore. Both sides have fought deep into Wild Wolf Slope. The map's full of wild wolves, and the stream can't keep up."
"Useless. What's there to fear about little wild wolves? Just slash them down—keep up, and stream the action."
"There are just too many wolves. I don't dare follow; it's frustrating."
"Carefree King, you're useless—can't even handle the mobs now?"
"Easy for you to say. You try."
"Sigh, no live stream, can't even enjoy the drama."
"This is Dangyang City. The main force of the Storm Guild entered Wild Wolf Slope. Looks like they're ready to support the artifact master at any moment. Next commentator, please."
"What happened? Is the artifact master losing?"
"That's normal. How could one person defeat hundreds? Unless he's Ao Tian."
The Storm Guild's people entered Wild Wolf Slope, which Zhang Shan already knew, but he didn't let them go deeper—just guard the entrance. The wild wolves on the map were overwhelming; those with weaker gear could easily get killed. The Conquerors probably lost a good number to the wolves as well.
They couldn't maintain their full strength while scattered in pursuit. Getting mobbed by wolves and losing some was only natural.
Zhang Shan checked his berserk skill's cooldown—a few dozen seconds left. It was almost time for a big move. He glanced at the pursuers; their formation stretched long. The closest were less than ten meters away, while the distant ones couldn't be seen—only green dots on the map.
The wild wolves on the map kept increasing, and even Zhang Shan found it hard to keep running. He had to clear a few regularly to move on.
The Dragon King and his crew behind him were in the same boat. Their numbers drew more wolves, forcing them to clear monsters nonstop just to keep up the chase.
The Dragon King now realized their chances were slim unless Zhang Shan made a foolish mistake and turned back for a head-on clash.
Otherwise, it was almost impossible to keep chasing—the wolves were too dense.
