Chapter Seventy-Four: Slaying the Wolf King
The Wolf King unleashed a powerful ultimate move, throwing everyone into chaos and even knocking out several players. For a full five or six minutes, the party focused solely on clearing the lesser monsters; only the tank continued attacking the Wolf King to maintain aggro, while the others held back. As a result, during this time, not only did the Wolf King’s health not decrease, but it actually recovered considerably. Now it still had over 5.5 million health points. Red bosses are never to be underestimated—even if they’re just stationary monsters.
After clearing the smaller foes, everyone breathed a sigh of relief, but the sight of the Wolf King’s health bar made their heads ache anew.
“Damn, the Wolf King’s ultimate is insane—summoning so many wild wolves, it’s downright terrifying.”
“Yeah, even bosses are using swarm tactics now.”
“Correction: it’s actually wolf swarm tactics.”
“Pedant.”
“Do you think the Wolf King will use its ultimate again?”
“Of course it will. We’ve only dealt less than half its health. Another one or two ultimates wouldn’t be surprising.”
“Let’s just hope the boss doesn't use its ultimate and Wolf God's Will together.”
“I don’t think it will.”
“Who knows. Just focus on dealing damage.”
“Saints, please bless us—don’t let us wipe. I don’t want to lose levels.”
“Shut up, will you.”
With everyone continuously attacking, the Wolf King’s health gradually dropped to just over two million. It summoned Wolf God's Will twice and used Wolf Pack Assault once. Thanks to their earlier experience, no one else died, though clearing the minions took considerable time.
“Ugh, we’ve been fighting for over half an hour and it still has over two million health left. This is tough.”
“Yeah, before this, bosses were done in a few minutes—ten at most. This time, we’ve been at it so long and still haven’t finished.”
“The main issue is the boss’s level is way higher than ours. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be this difficult.”
“The hardest part is yet to come. The boss is about to go berserk. Everyone, stay alert.”
When the Wolf King’s health dropped to two million, its attacks on Little Secretary became even more deadly. Previously, the damage numbers above Little Secretary’s head were around seven thousand; after the boss went berserk, each hit approached ten thousand.
“Damn, I can barely hang on.”
“You need to hang on! We’re nowhere near done. The boss hasn’t even used its skills yet.”
“Little Secretary, I’m telling you—if you don’t pull your weight this time, I’m cutting ties with you.”
“Exactly. If you go down, the rest of us are doomed.”
“That depends on whether the healers can keep up. Don’t look at me—I’m just the punching bag.”
After the Wolf King went berserk, its defense dropped noticeably and everyone’s damage output increased. Barring any surprises, the remaining two million health could be dealt with in three to five minutes.
“Come on, we’re almost there! I can almost see the red equipment waving at me.”
“Haha, so what if it’s a level thirty red boss? We’re still going to take it down.”
“Damn, it’s not letting up—even after going berserk.”
The Wolf King summoned Wolf God's Will once more.
Windcloud Qingqing quickly cast Totem Technique in the midst of the group.
“Luckily it’s just the third skill. As long as it doesn’t use its ultimate, we’re fine. This skill is easy to deal with.”
“Don’t jinx it. Your mouth is like a crow’s—you always bring bad luck.”
“Relax. Even if it uses its ultimate, we’re not afraid. The Wolf King is down to just over a hundred thousand health. In two minutes tops, we’ll finish it.”
“Damn it, I told you not to tempt fate.”
Right then, the Wolf King began to swing its forepaws again, and countless wild wolves surged forth.
“Hold on! Move closer to the healers. Warriors, hold the outer line.”
With two rounds of experience dealing with Wolf Pack Assault, everyone had a strategy. They gathered together, with healers protected in the center and strength-based classes on the perimeter. This allowed them to clear the minions efficiently. The Wolf King lacked area damage skills, so bunching together wasn’t a problem—it actually helped their defense.
“Damn, this isn’t working! We can’t hold the line. These minions are berserk too, much fiercer than before.”
“What’s going on? Even the minions are berserk?”
“There’s nothing for it. Just hold out as long as you can—the rest, clear the minions as fast as possible.”
Zhang Shan activated his berserk skill again, trying to kill the wild wolves as quickly as possible.
In less than two minutes, nearly all the warriors holding the perimeter had fallen. The survivors struggled against the berserk wolves, killing them rapidly. Fortunately, most had already been cleared; around three or four hundred remained. The group rotated tanking duties, barely managing to hold out.
Zhang Shan and his panda companion stood at the front, while Windcloud Cannon pulled his little wolf up to tank as well. Though the little wolf’s defense and health were not as high as the panda’s, it still surpassed the remaining players.
Through alternating cover, they finally managed to clear the minions, though at great cost.
This time, the losses were severe. All the warriors who had initially held the perimeter were wiped out. Fragile classes continued to fall afterward. Now, only Little Secretary—still tanking the boss—and a cluster of healers remained. Including Zhang Shan, only thirteen people were left.
“So many have fallen—do the remaining players have enough damage output?”
“Are you underestimating the Artifact King? Even if we all fall, as long as the Artifact King stands, he can still take down the boss.”
Indeed, Zhang Shan’s damage output, while not equal to the combined force of everyone, was about the same as seven or eight players. Plus, Windcloud Cannon was still alive; his little wolf’s critical strike aura boosted the group’s crit rate significantly, which was a huge help.
The Wolf King had less than a million health left. Unless it used its ultimate again, they could take it down in two or three minutes.
Hopefully, the Wolf King wouldn't use its ultimate again. If it did, the remaining group couldn’t possibly withstand it.
Everyone quietly focused on dealing damage, using every skill available. Windcloud Qingqing’s Totem Technique was cast as soon as its cooldown ended, to provide any increase in attack and speed, however slight.
As for what to do if the Wolf King summoned Wolf God's Will again? No need to worry—all the truly fragile classes had fallen. The survivors, though also somewhat fragile, had decent cloak attributes and could tank Wolf God's Will once.
The most important thing now was to defeat the Wolf King as quickly as possible and prevent another ultimate.
In the tense, oppressive atmosphere, the Wolf King’s health continued to drop—five hundred thousand, three hundred thousand, two hundred thousand, one hundred thousand, fifty thousand…
“Haha, we really are about to kill it! Even if we have to endure another Wolf Pack Assault, we can finish the boss.”
“Keep going!”
Those lying on the ground could only cheer them on and shout encouragement.
A single critical hit for over eight thousand damage emptied the Wolf King’s health bar, and Zhang Shan quickly commanded his panda companion to unleash a combo skill. The panda’s two paws swung furiously, and the seven-hit combo instantly finished off the Wolf King. Several beams of colored light fell into Windcloud World’s backpack.
System Announcement: Congratulations to players Windcloud World, Windcloud Blade, Six-Bar Bodhisattva, and others for the first kill of the Wolf King. All party members receive +1 skill point and +100 merit.
