Chapter Seventy-Five: The Wrath of the Constellations
At last, the Wolf King was finally defeated, and everyone let out a sigh of relief.
The little secretary swapped cloaks back with Zhang Shan.
“That was really close. If we’d been any slower, the Wolf King probably would’ve unleashed another ultimate move.”
“Yeah, taking on a level 30 red boss at level 20 is just too much, even if the Wolf King is probably the easiest among them.”
“True. If it weren’t for the massive level suppression, the wolf pack’s attacks wouldn’t pose much threat to the players.”
“Exactly. Right now, I can’t even tank three wild wolves at once. If I were level 30, that’d be child’s play.”
“Stop chatting and hurry up and revive me! I want to get my share of the loot!” wailed a certain big shot lying on the ground.
Some of the support players felt dizzy at the sight. So many people sprawled lifeless on the ground—how were they supposed to revive them all?
They now had four people with resurrection skills, but nearly thirty lay dead. Deciding who to revive first was a dilemma.
The resurrection skill had a five-minute cooldown, and after dying, players couldn’t just lie there indefinitely waiting to be revived.
There was a time limit for lying dead—at most, you could stay on the ground for an hour. After that, the system would force you to respawn back at the city, costing you a full level in experience.
“Resurrect in order of death—start with the earliest ones who fell.”
“Come on, revive me! I was the first to go down!”
“Shameless. The first to die is the weakest, and you still have the nerve to brag?”
“So what if I died first? Damn it, I don’t want to lie here for half an hour.”
The earliest casualty grumbled.
The supports with resurrection skills brought back the first four who fell, while the rest could only wait patiently.
Those in the final batch would probably be lying there for over half an hour, but at least they didn’t have to go back to the city and lose a level.
“Boss, open up the loot! I saw a red glow earlier—there must be red equipment!”
“There has to be red equipment. First kill of a red boss—if red gear doesn’t drop, that’d be outrageous.”
“Ha, I hope there’s something I can use.”
“Even if there is, with your luck, do you really think you’ll win the roll?”
“Mind your own business.”
Storm Dominates the World revealed all the loot.
“Damn, the Wolf King was generous!”
“What’s that skill book? Looks amazing! Is that the ultimate archer skill? How did a level 30 boss drop that?”
Seeing the loot on display, everyone was practically drooling—there were just too many good things.
There were two red, two orange pieces of equipment, and one red crafting material.
But the highlight was the two skill books: one was a universal skill for all classes—Leap.
The other was the Archer’s Wrath of the Stars, unbelievably powerful—possibly the ultimate skill for archers.
As for why a level 30 boss was already dropping ultimate skill books, only the system could say.
Both red pieces were excellent: one was bracers for agility classes, the other a dagger for thieves.
Perfect Direwolf Bracers (Red): Defense 200, Health 1000, Agility 120. Special Effect 1: Dexterity. Special Effect 2: Life’s Favor. Durability 100/100.
Dexterity: Increases attack speed by 3%.
Life’s Favor: Increases health regeneration by 10.
Perfect Wolf Fang Dagger (Red): Physical Attack 1400-1600, Agility 207. Special Effect 1: Power Strike. Special Effect 2: Enhanced Critical. Durability 100/100.
Power Strike (Basic): Increases attack by 3%.
Enhanced Critical: Increases critical hit rate by 3%.
The two orange items were for strength classes with decent stats, but they paled in comparison to the red equipment.
But it was the two skill books that drew everyone’s focus.
Both were top-tier and extremely rare, especially the Archer’s Wrath of the Stars—the very first one in New World.
Leap needed no explanation: it was a universal skill, a true treasure for any class. Anyone with this skill would see their survivability soar.
Leap: Jump forward ten yards—a stylish way to escape in a pinch.
Wrath of the Stars: Fire an arrow into the sky, calling down the stars for massive area damage.
Tenfold damage, a fifty-yard radius, five seconds to charge, five-second duration, mana cost 20,000, cooldown 24 hours, class requirement: Archer.
A true ultimate move, massive damage, huge area, tenfold boost, lasting five seconds.
Anyone foolish enough to step into the area during those five seconds would be courting death—unless, in the future, invincibility or magic immunity skills appeared.
The only drawback: the cooldown was long—this skill could only be used once per day.
And even worse, the mana cost was a staggering 20,000.
Currently, even full-intelligence mages only had a mana cap of three to four thousand.
For an agility-based archer, where were they supposed to find 20,000 mana?
Zhang Shan, with all his points in agility, didn’t even have a thousand mana.
With a requirement like 20,000, who knew when an archer could ever reach that?
Though the skill was amazing, for a long while, it would remain just for show, unattainable and unusable.
“What the hell, this is absurd! I’ve only got a few hundred mana—how is an archer supposed to use this skill? It needs twenty thousand?”
“Seriously, what a letdown. Thought it was a godly skill, but it’s actually a trap.”
“Not necessarily. Even though no archer has twenty thousand mana now, you could collect special items in the future.”
“That’s true. There are already quite a few special items out there, including those that boost max mana. They’re not great yet—just a few hundred or a thousand at most.”
“Those add a few hundred to a thousand, but they’re just green or white. If you get a red special item, the mana boost should be enough.”
“You’re really dreaming! A red special item?”
“Exactly. Apart from Midas’ Hand, no one’s even heard of a special item above blue.”
“There are some, actually. Heart Follows My Will has an artifact-tier special item,” Zhang Shan interjected.
“No way, seriously?”
“Really. He showed me—a special item just for swordmages, boosting sword attack by fifty percent.”
“Damn, what kind of luck is that? Which monster dropped it?”
“It wasn’t a drop. He said it was a gift from the village chief when he left the beginner village.”
“Seriously? Why didn’t the chief give me anything? He even charged me a gold coin for the teleport.”
“Because your luck is terrible.”
“Because you’re ugly, haha.”
“Ha! As if the chief gave you anything, either.”
“I wouldn’t want it even if he did. I want to get my own drops from monsters.”
“Big talker.”
“Enough nonsense, let’s divvy up the loot. With so many treasures, they’re just making us drool.”
“Alright, let’s start. First up is the Wrath of the Stars skill book. All archers, roll for it.”
Storm Dominates the World said, and opened the roll for Wrath of the Stars.
“Boss, you’re not playing by the book, giving out the best item first!”
“Hehe, let’s see which of you is the lucky one.”
