Chapter Thirty-Five: The End of the War
The divine crystals obtained in the past had always been kept, never exchanged for high-grade stones. Now, upon taking them out, Boss Li immediately noticed something was amiss—among them, a dozen or so were clearly smaller than the rest. These particular pieces must have been the ones acquired when he and Gu Linglong ambushed the Angel Army.
Could the crystals evaporate? Boss Li speculated.
Though the six-winged angel's crystal had also shrunk considerably, it still served as a badge of status. When Li Chengzhu brought it to trade for high-grade stones, Ye Zhiqiu nearly popped his eyes out in shock.
Where did this bastard steal it from? Ye Zhiqiu eyed Boss Li, trying to guess.
Cunning as Li Chengzhu was, he kept his lips sealed. No matter how persistently Marshal Ye pressed him, he refused to divulge any information.
In the end, the last six-winged crystal, a four-winged crystal, and one hundred thirty-seven two-winged crystals netted Boss Li two hundred and fifty-seven high-grade stones.
The riches of war came so easily that Boss Li could hardly contain his laughter.
Moreover, after enduring the scourge of battle and the baptism of blood, Boss Li now exuded an indescribable aura. His already handsome features had become even more chiseled, adding a sense of ruggedness to his demeanor.
Yuan Mu’s return made Gu Linglong’s hunting team even more formidable, reaping victory after victory on the battlefield. Yuan Mu’s cultivation had reached the mid-stage Immortal level, far surpassing Gu Linglong, who was but a half-baked Immortal. The only regret was the lack of a suitable weapon or magical artifact; Yuan Mu had to make do with a decent flying sword scavenged from the battlefield, relying on his own mastery to dispatch angels with ease.
In response, Boss Li had once pretended to be magnanimous and tried to return the Glass Needle to the Yuan brothers.
But Yuan Mu adamantly refused, for reasons unknown. The old fellow seemed to have a particular fondness for Boss Li. Were it not for the vast difference in cultivation, Boss Li might have interpreted Yuan Mu’s smile as sycophantic.
The Gu Linglong team moved in unison: Yuan Mu took point, Boss Li wielded the Meteor Sword in the center, and released the Nine Heavens Grand Cauldron. A hundred and twenty flying swords danced overhead, dazzling and terrifying their enemies.
Although the Nine Heavens Grand Cauldron could unleash eight hundred flying swords, Boss Li’s cultivation was insufficient, permitting only a hundred and twenty to manifest. Even so, it was enough to send the angels into a panic.
Little Shadow, sly as ever, knew that staying close to Boss Li was not only safe but also allowed her to scavenge, picking up the spoils from angels left half dead by Boss Li to claim her own military merit. Boss Li was so infuriated he threatened loudly that if she continued such opportunism, he’d XXOO her.
But threats meant nothing to Little Shadow, the female demon. “It’s just a body, isn’t it? Take it if you want!” She thrust her proud chest forward, casting Boss Li a coquettish glance.
Boss Li was utterly defeated!
Since their last spat, the little creature had taken offense, sulking with Boss Li.
At mealtimes, it would demand a high-grade stone, then nestle in Little Shadow’s arms and refuse to leave. Not even the crystals extracted from slain angels could tempt it.
This drove Boss Li to the verge of cursing his ancestors.
One was snatching military merit, the other claimed the spoils. Not a scrap was left for Boss Li.
Tears welled in Li Chengzhu’s eyes.
The ancients were right: women and petty creatures are impossible to nurture. Woe is me!
This situation persisted for over a week before, through coaxing and cajoling, Boss Li finally got his spoils back from the little creature.
“I’d like to see where you’ll find a female mouse!” Little Shadow pouted angrily. That damned man had taught the little creature bad habits, promising to find it a mate.
“Heh, if that fails, we can always look elsewhere, right, son? The Persian cats in the Immortal Realm are quite something.” Boss Li winked at the little creature, his face full of lewdness.
“Squeak squeak!” The little creature bounced with excitement.
“Two perverts,” Little Shadow spat, suddenly recalling the scene she’d witnessed in Gu Linglong’s fortress—the steel-hard vigor, the ferocious appearance. It made her legs weak and her body heat up, stirring restlessness within. Unconsciously, she squeezed her thighs together, and a dizzying sensation rose from below, nearly causing her to collapse.
Her cheeks flushed, Little Shadow ignored Boss Li and turned to flee.
“Why run? It’s not like you haven’t seen it before!” Boss Li muttered behind her. His remark nearly made Little Shadow trip, and she fled even faster.
“If you steal my military merit again, I really will XXOO you!” Boss Li shouted, cupping his hands around his mouth.
“Beast!” Just then, Gu Linglong entered from outside the tent, catching Boss Li in his shameless, lecherous act, and cursed through gritted teeth.
“Ahem!” Boss Li awkwardly scratched his head, then picked up the little creature and examined it closely, mumbling, “Hmm, a bit small, but it’s fine. Dad’ll find you a loli Persian cat.”
“Squeak!” The little creature’s own little creature twitched, then sprayed Boss Li’s face with urine.
...
The stalemate between the Immortal Realm and Angel Realm was finally broken by the intervention of several powerful Celestial Immortals.
By the eighth month of battle, the Immortal Emperor dispatched three Celestial Immortals to reinforce the war effort. On the Angel side, prolonged maintenance of the spatial rift had left all ten-winged angels and higher utterly depleted, requiring years of rest before rejoining the fight. It was a windfall for the Immortal Realm.
The three Celestial Immortals stormed the Angel Realm’s headquarters, wiped out their senior commanders, and withdrew without losing so much as a strand of hair.
Without their leaders, the Angel legions fell into chaos. The Immortal Realm mounted a single, massive charge and uprooted the Angel encampment entirely.
Those angels who tried to flee back to their realm were cut down one by one by the fierce warriors guarding the spatial rift, then tossed over to the Immortal Realm’s side.
Upon learning the truth, Boss Li and his companions nearly spat blood in rage. Had they known, they would have sent in their powerful Immortals earlier to finish the job, sparing these little fish and shrimp months of toil.
Boss Li swore to curse the Immortal Emperor’s mother a hundred times a day from now on!
